Can anyone provide some opinions on whether it is better (smaller footprint -less demand on resources etc etc) to buy X2 Essential (64bit version) to run on  a laptop? I already own X2 Producer, but I was thinking it might be too much for the lappy?

It is an intel i3 M360 CPU @ 2.4ghz - 4gig ram 128gig SSD

thanks

You could download the 30-day free trial and check if it works fine, I think.

I already own Essentials 32bit...from an old project I was working on, but most of my good vsts are 64bit!! All I am after is some opinions on whether I should just use X2 Producer, or pay the $60 for an Essentials 64 bit version...seems there is no cheaper way to get 64 bit version of the Essentials pack...

Well, IMO, if he already owns X2 Producer, there's little use for a demo, which also is Producer.

I don't think there's any difference resource-wise which version you're running. The core of the program is the same in all versions, I'm 99% sure. It's just some of the heaviest mastering plugins that can cause glitches.
Running a 64 bit system you could buy a little more RAM, perhaps.

Yeah - I would load X2a on it.

Does your laptop allow for additional memory to be added?  If so, a 4 GB strip costs around $20-$30 these days, if memory serves (pun intended).

More memory would be a good thing in any case.

I think the i3 would be a little slow, but would likely run X2a OK.

More memory and you should be fine for Producer.

Cheers guys, thanks for the info...I will investigate installing two new 4 gig chips then...I think it is pretty straight forward for Toshiba laptops.

joden I ran a set up similar to yours at one point for testing a system.
it was a Toshiba Intel I3 with 4 gigs of ram.
it ran pretty good actually.

more than adequate for running sonar essentials and  producer.
more ram will give you more headroom over plug ins, exc.
but you might find 4 gigs will be close to enough.
have you pushed it yet with this set up ?

I did and on that particular set up (the Intel I3/4 gigs) I was able to run 20 tracks with 4 soft synths and prochannel on 10 tracks/over 15 vst's.
using up approx. 31 of sonars performance module (RAM) and 40% system memory. (that includes all system functions)

WOW!! Thanks CB - terrific  info...sounds like my system will be pretty much identical and I won't be running as much as that...I might just give it tryout first after loading up Producer and THEN see if more RAM is needed... It was mentioned above the i3 may be a bit slow - can you tell me what your experience with it was? I mean did you NOTICE it being particularly slow, even though it did the tasks assigned?
