Yeah, this is how Microsoft makes "user-friendly" computing - by choosing to do it for us, and then burying the controls deeply enough that people won't ever see them in the first place. Glad to help, hope it solves your problem. Guess you'll have to wait for midnight Sunday to find out...

Is there a list out there of these things that "could" be shut off so that others dont have to worry about the after midnight madness?

Yes, indeed there is a guy out there who runs a website which lists what services etc. you could do without. You'll find it at:

I've only recently come across this, so I've done most of my tweaking earlier, mainly based on what I could find / understand from microsoft websites.

...or just do a CTL+ALT+DEL and open the task manager and look at the services tab...see what's running, and if you're really saavy, look at the running processes...

If a reboot does not fix it, but it works fine next day, you may want to make aure you have adequate cooling.  This would explain it not working immediately upon reboot.....needs to cool down.

More than likely, your Windows Task Scheduler has a scheduled event with Trigger=Midnight and Action=Beer_For_Bertl

Thanks for the cooling hint. Hadn't thought of that, but that's something to be aware of since my machine is overclocked ...

Anyway, I'm now pretty much sure that particular issure was a schedule task interfering. So I killed them all ;-)

Yet, I need to get some sort of a timer installed that recommends to end such lengthy session earlier, for the sake of beer. 9 hrs would have been enough because fresh ears revealed that the overdubs from the last 2 hours weren't that great ...

Sounds like a plan - just don't get mixed up and cool your CPU with cold beer.
