I honestly could not even imagine what it would be like to be pressing icons in the toolbar to cut/copy/paste.
I mean I know I did once apon a time, but that seems like black and white film days.
like 1950's technology.

sorry nothing against the original poster here.
but its soooo much easier to use keyboard shortcuts to do all this rather than running my mouse all over the screen clicking on icons 1000 times a project.

I must have entered an alternate universe, cause it makes no sense that the basics not are there on the Big Stick in My Eye, otherwise know as the controlbar. They could have at least been on one of the modules available to be shown or hidden. (Better yet, there should be user-defined toolbars with said basic buttons available.) P.S. Oh, and if anyone is listening, when I finally do navigate to Cut (or be so lucky as to click on that little button with the scissors, you know what I mean) guess what I want to do, I'll give you a hint, I want to CUT. What I do NOT want to do is answer yet another question or two. You could make that another option, like Safety Cut (get it?..you know - safety scissors.)

Do you seriously wish the menu bars to be cluttered with useless stuff that is completely second nature in hundreds of Windows applications?... or do you actually live in a universe where Ctrl C, Ctrl V, Ctrl S are not used?....

Not having undo/redo icons is a PITA.  Just one of may functions removed since 8.5.   They seem to be following Apple - less choice is somehow better.

That is the whole point of customizable toolbars. You just have the tools that are useful to you and not ones you will not use. If you don't use the toolbar at all you hide it.

I never used the cut and paste icons, and I seldom use the shortcuts either. The right click edit menu is my preferred MO.

I do however support the idea of customizable toolbars.

That's why we need customizable toolbars.  So you can have what you like and other people can have what they like.  What works best for you may not be best for others.  Unless you think everyone should be forced to work your way because it's the right way.

I have a Contour Shuttle PRO V2 and have buttons programmed for these functions.  So instead of having to use a two finger salute, I just press one button.  My shuttle has drivers for many programs including Sonar and Sound Forge.

When I'm making music I prefer not to be typing on a keyboard. If I want to type on a keyboard I'll open up word and write a nice letter to my mother. Otherwise I don't want to be bothered with tippy tap typing on a device that has zero to do with the music making process at that particular time.

Similarly, when I'm doing some heavy editing I prefer not to be sitting at a piano keyboard or have a guitar hanging around my neck or a pair of drumsticks in my hands. Those things get in the way of tippy tap typing on the computer keyboard.

Why is this so difficult?  The UI needs to support the variety of ways the software is expected to be used. One set of colors, one big toolbar, one way of accessing key functions = design fail. My opinion, of course.

Thanks for this. I've been thinking that it would be nice to put my left hand to work
and had something like this in mind, though I didn't know one existed.

You can program it for any command you want in Sonar ?

Just curious. How do Windows 8 users copy and paste clips in Sonar? Touch-select the clip and then? (or just drag?)

The touch stuff doesn't cover everything so there's still need for keyboard/mouse actions. Don't know if that applies to cut/paste though. If not there might be specific touch gestures to do it or you select then use the menus. Aside from just moving faders and whatnot I'd find using a touchscreen in Sonar more trouble than it's worth.
