  • Did Chrome kill my month long no-crash streak?

Since I installed X2 a month ago, I haven't had a single crash.  Until today.
It wasn't a very demanding project- I'm not sure set it off but it did crash 2 times- so I know it wasn't just a fluke.

I had left Chrome open and I have not yet (on this machine) told windows that it's not allowed to use my pro audio hardware (so WMP and browsers all use my profire 2626).

Could that have been my crash?
After the 2nd crash i closed chrome and no more crashes occurred.

Fortunately, we didn't lose a single take.  I didn't even need the autosaved versions- I save frequently.

Anybody have an opinion on this?

The feeling I get when I hear a story like yours is that when Sonar wants something from the system,
but that something happens to be temporarily busy right at that moment,
Sonar will crash or otherwise misbehave.

Sonar doesn't seem to like to be kept waiting.

This is only an impression, I have no idea what's going on inside Sonar,
but it seems to me that it could be better at handling difficult situations.

I've noticed that Chrome likes to launch way more process threads than open tabs which will eat up your available ram. (check your task manager sometime). If "left open", this is a possible cause. Solution is to close it.

I've got another user account on my computer just for Sonar. Nothing else installed or enabled on that account. So far it's worked great.

Chrome is a banned application in my company. If it's on your company laptop the IT police will block you access, e-mail your manager and land you with a whole pile of inconvenience. I don't know why but its reason enough for me not to have it on my personal computers.

Not had anough coffee yet this morning It Opera that is banned.

If I load a webpage in Chrome while playing back music in Sonar, the music stutters and glitches until the page is loaded.

Yes, I have this problem too with chrome and X2,
The only time it crashes (freezes) is when I have
chrome and X2 open,  I still have haven't learned my
Lesson :)

Chrome caused crashes when I tried it.  Way more threads than necessary.  No more chrome for my computer.

Hi gbarrett,

Could you describe how you did that?  I was also under the impression that I could have a user account with less processes enabled, but wasn't sure.  I'm good at Windows operations but wasn't sure if what you described would work.

I'd like to do what you did in order to provide Sonar with all of the resources that it needs.

Thanks,

Duke
