i'd like to copy a track from 1 project to another.  can this be done in 1 step, or do I have to load the same soft synth (and parameters) in a new project, then copy all the midi/automation afterwards?

thanks.

Matt41 - I copy tracks between songs all the time.

I think you're correct in suggesting it takes a few steps (or more depending on how you're counting).

One way is to save the source track as a track template. That saves all the settings. You can then drag the track template onto your new song and all the settings are there for your soft synth etc.

Then you can go to the source track and use Copy Special (control alt C) and pick what you want to copy from the source track.

Then Paste Special into your new song's track, pasting what stuff you want.

Generally, if a track from project 1 is to be copied into project 2..... it would mean that the projects would be nearly identical.

Perhaps 2 would be a variation of,  or a new version of 1.

Therefore, the easy way to copy the track(s) would be to do a project  "SAVE AS"  command and give the new project a different name.  You get an exact duplicate. Then in the new project, delete the unneeded tracks and synths and move forward with the new tune.

Using the SAVE AS replicates everything from the synths, the envelopes, the settings....... everything.

that wouldn't work.  the projects are very different, with many tracks of their own.  just 2 are in common.   and both projects have had a lot of work done on them.

Matt41 - the method I've described should work fine. I do it routinely.
