I tried a trick I thought up - probably not original to me, but I'll be curious what you guys hear and if you hear my trick. Meh, I guess I'll just explain it.
 
I was previewing this track while my son was playing video games and I was listening to my track in the open and the video game's soundtrack was playing and I kept hearing them interleave, harmonically. I kept listening harder to my track going "What's that, I don't remmeber playing that" but in a REALLY good way. It was like the noise and ambience I was hearing was 'working' in my track...
 
SO what I decided to do was download a track of a crowd of people crosstalking, melodyne it to the key of my track, HP/LP filter it so I only have the mid-range, then pull the midi notes out of it to Zst3 OSC and use that to create a chimey, wave thing...then I LP that so it was taking up the mid range....and ZOMG....it created such a cool feel. I only spent about 40 minutes doing it...so I didn't get the EXACT result I was looking for - but what I did get was pretty effing cool.

oh - off topic, but tangentially important to me - can someone point me in the direction of the best horns VST? I need a good horns instrument AND organ/piano.

That was a nice piano and strings tune, but like Wookie I must have missed the technique you described.

It is a good tune. Perhaps you could let us hear how the song sounds without the special effect you mentioned so we could hear it better.
