I'm getting more crashes today. Ugh! This is the worst experience I've ever had with Sonar. Just opening sessions, :(

From chuckebaby:
"what soundcard are you using? forgive me if i missed that."

I'm using an external audio interface, the RME Babyface.

 Just crashed again, dang it.

Update: and again (crash #2 tonight) after about just about 20 minutes since re-opening the program. After tonight's first crash, I did a cold boot to try and clear any RAM issues, just in case.

To confirm: I am indeed running Service Pack 1 for my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Since my first post, I have checked and confirmed the tips listed earlier, and installed the update to Sonar X2a.

I worked for about two hours before crashing it--did do a couple of saves along the way.

I save after any edit which I don't want to lose.

My ctrl + S keys have very little paint left on them.

And as for ctrl + Z....................................

Sir Les
I will bet that the UAD card is causing Your issues, Check IRQ sharing, and see what it is shared with...In my case it always seems to share with a onboard controller chipset......Try turning it off in device manager for a test run..
Could be the drivers for the UAD is causing a problem with the motherboars functioning with that chipset?...You can try another slot if it is sharing with a chipset, and see if win 7 share it with something else less critical...IF SO....Anyway I am going to remove the drivers and UAD card from my system...as I do not have enough IRQs to run it stable with any DAW So far....And IRQs are a Issue I suspect all win 7 and onwards will come to incounter sooner or later....As that is what Win 7 and 8 like to do best is share those valued commodities with things that should not share At all. ..and no real way to manually intervine and set em exclusively anymore....makes for a unstable Platform ....But that is my 5 cents...no more pennies?...hope it helps ...oh..you can try turning off devices you do not use...Like let us say onboard audio, or internet nic, and see if freeing up irq's help...might?

at this point i suggest keeping a close eye on what synth /plug in you are using before the crash is happening.
is your interface set up with the latest drivers/set to ASIO ?

I'd bump up to Windows pro. Those home editions of Windows are usually missing important parts. ...at least it's cheaper than breaking strings and blowing speakers.

Thanks to everyone for further suggestions. I checked for latest drivers, and I've been using ASIO drivers since I started. *Ages* ago I used to turn off Plug n Play and set my own IRQs in Win95, to make sure my SCSI interface for my [ early, $600 ] CD Burner had no conflicts. I see the point of suspecting the UAD, but my quad card (and several plugins) cost more than the entire PC. The related tip of disabling all unused devices sounds good, I'm going to try that. Three more crashes tonight, including just a few seconds after cold boot/Sonar start/file open/start playback first time. Didn't touch anything while it was playing, crashed about 15 seconds in. I only have 9 tracks total at this point, it's not like it's a crowded piece of music.

Hi,

I had heaps of trouble with X2 crashing.  I logged a case and they did suggest turning off the virus detector. (I didn't) However, I was using McAfee which was running out of time so I installed Nortons and things have been fine since.

I looked about a lot and it seems other folks were also having similar issues with McAfee and I think some other virus detectors.

Hope this helps.

Working on a pure soft-synths piece, I'm crashing Sonar X2 Producer every 20 minutes. Crashed it a couple of dozen times in one evening a few days ago.

The message is "sonarpdr.exe has crashed", then the program closes down entirely.

Here's some particulars: HW: Lenovo K430,
i7-3770
8GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 620
RME Babyface
UAD 2 Quad-core

SW: Win7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
Sonar X2 Producer Build 306 [NOTE Mar 3: Now updated to X2a]

In this piece, VST: Zebra2(x64) two instances
PSYN II one instance
UAD 1176LN three instances
UAD Realverb four instances
UAD Pultec one instance
UAD LA2A one instance
Cakewalk Multivoice Chorus/Flanger one instance
Cakewalk Channel Tools one instance

This piece has 3 MIDI tracks (2 Zebra2, 1 PNSYN), plus three audio tracks for loops.

Nearly all the sound action happens in the first Zebra2 synth in Track 1, which is driven by MIDI data. Crashes repeatedly happen before any of the other tracks make their entrance around bar 70.

The main Zebra2 track has 6 automations going: Volume, Pan, and ProChannel EQ banks Hi Pass Freq, HF Gain, HMF Gain and LMF Gain. They're pretty lively, lots of dial spinning.

UAD Control Panel reports the load is quite low, avg 17%, and highest load on a single core is 26%. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Looks to me like you're using 2 audio interfaces: the UAD and the RME. That's generally not recommended. Try disconnecting them one at a time and see if the crashing goes away.
