Hi guys and girls, hope someone can help!

I am trying to set the bit depth to 24bit. My VS-100 is the soundcard and it is set to 24bit. In X2 the VS inputs and outputs are correctly selected in preferences - audio devices. Under driver settings the VS is again correctly selected as record and playback timing master. Beneath that is the audio driver bit depth setting which is set to 24bit however it is gray'ed out. Next to that the double precision 64bit engine is selected. In playback and recording the driver mode is Asio with dithering of triangular.

What is really bothering me is that in the control panel it shows the bit depth to be 16bit @44.1k. How do I change this to work at 24bit?

I probably have not explained this that well but I am very frustrated right now. Any help or ideas greatly welcome.

If your audio device is playing back windows sounds then it will alwats default to 16/44.1 as that is what windows sounds play at.
You need.to disable windows sound from using your audio device.

Try this Phil: Open X2, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Data and look for "file bit depths". If you're set to 16 bit in record bit depth, that's what needs to be changed to 24 bit. The Sonar default for those boxes would be 24 for recording, 32 for render, and original.

The box you are seeing that is greyed out will always be greyed out, so no worries there. Try what I said here and see if it fixes it for you. Good luck. :)

Mike V - Thanks for your thoughts but I have windows sounds of, Sonar is not sharing the sound card.

Danny - thank you thank you thank you, absolutely spot on. Must confess that I had never paid much attention to audio data in preferences. Now working perfectly. Now if only I could work out how to list this thread as solved lol.

Haha you're quite welcome Phil. I had a feeling that was the problem. For the thread fix....go to your original post, mouse over message options, click on edit, then change the topic screen to solved as you will then be able to type in that heading box. :) Stick with us brother...we'll take care of you around here. LOL! :) Glad we sorted this one out. Best of luck with Sonar...have fun! :)
