Thanks again everyone.
Tho I do now have a way to make it work thru the softsynth install, I will look into the original problem seeing as so many feel it should work. (I'm X1d BTW).
Installing a synth made sense to me because otherwise, where would the sound come from once you had a drum map?

PS Scott, The Sonar X1 Power book is excellent. It's extremely dogeared from constant references.

Re sound: you could also use a MIDI track with an external MIDI synth and use a Drum Map for that.

Good point, I'll have to try my drum machine and my GR20 synths to see if I can get their sounds.
