The limitations of trying to sync music to video has always been frustrating for me to say the least but now I can't get any video to play in X2.
I usually take HD and dumb it down to NTSC DV (not even widescreen) to use in Sonar but now that doesn't work.
I get no errors when importing, I just have no audio and see no video in the video screen...all I see is timecode ticking away with a blank screen.
If I right click and go to video properties everything looks normal.
WMP plays the clip fine...any thoughts?
Thanks very much,
Randy

Codecs.

Try installing KLite codecs pack.

I can see where one might think that but my main gig is video production and I have pretty much all codecs installed.
I render out of Sony Vegas Pro 12 using it's NTSC DV template and Sonar has never with it...I just renedered the clip again to a very basic .wmv and I get the same thing....it's been a while since I've imported video to Sonar so maybe I'm doing something wrong ...don't you just file/import/video? I also wonder if I screwed something up in prefs or inadvertently hit some keyboard shortcut because the video track shows "video thumbnails are hidden" which it didn't before.
Thanks Mark,
Randy

Sound Design is my gig so i'm working with Video all the time.

I tend to use .MOV's for video which work fine this end. Maybe go with that?

Sonar is crazily picky on what videos play and what dont but thinking about it if theres a codec issue it will throw out the "unsupported file format"

On the video options have you got the "animate" video check box ticked? (right click on the video)

Two things that Cakewalk absolutely never upgrades:  Video and Notation.

I just rendered a very small (5 seconds @512 kbps) .mov to test and this time X2 threw the unsupported format error (didn't do that for the avi and wmv I tried...just no video or audio).
Animate video was checked BTW.

@vintagevibe- yessir I know...it just seems to me that if one of the major companies did support video even in a very elementary way (ie just a single track but able to throw more than 1 clip on the timeline) that it would be well worth their effort.

I am new to video, i gave up on Sonar after a few hours and downloaded the trial version of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. VMS works great for what I need. Very easy to use, seems like lots of power.  I posted a similar thread and the feedback suggested even though sonar does video, it doesn't do well, and there is very llittle support for it. So I moved on.

Vegas Pro is it's "big brother" and at times I do some serious editing (up to 4 video tracks)...in that respect I would never expect Sonar "to do video" at all.
I'm just saying if Sonar could kinda sorta playback a few simple clips that I could compose music to, it would be a fantastic DAW and have a big leg up on it's competition!

I use Shark007 codecs and can load any video into X2. Just be sure you have the 64 bit ones.
