yeah, i had issues w/8.x and 8.5.x too... (and possibly 7 also, but i don't remember for sure)

on a slightly different tip, almost all mixers/producers interviewed, when asked why they use the daw they use, is almost always "because they know where everything is"...

That's understandable - and it's why I tried to separate some of the issues people were reporting on this forum into the "1) I can't find anything" (meaning they don't read the documentation, sigh), and 2) I was comfortable before and now I have to learn all this new stuff" vs the actual bugs.

I have seen quite a few people rave about the new "Inspector" for example.   Well, the Inspector has been there a LONG time but because it wasn't "promoted/advertised/hyped up", those who didn't bother to dig in deeper (cough cough read the manaul) didn't even know it was there.

So all of a sudden there was this "new/great" thing!    Makes me kinda laugh when I read that stuff.

Even the Browser.  It's been there a long time, albeit in different form.

But those are not bugs -- they are cosmetic and functional changes;  many of which escape the casual user.

A lot of those bugs affected me, John -- but not quite the same as X1.

However, a lot of those bugs didn't affect me.  AudioSnap was never something I liked or used much (it just was half-baked in my opinion and still is, though somewhat improved in 8.5.3).

V-Vocal is another one did my best not to use, so it wasn't a biggie for me.

A number of the other bugs - for whatever reason - didn't seem to stop my workflow with the entire 8.x cycle.  Some were definitely annoying, but they just didn't have the "cumulative" affect that the bugs in X1 has for me.

Another example:  The Matrix.   I just stopped using it.  It still has problems and has not had any updating.

And, interestingly enough - SOME of those 8.x bugs STILL exist, in spite of that text showing they're fixed.

But I think there's more to this.  Something I alluded to early on in the X1 release was the phenonenom of people being tired of this endless cycle of rush releases that cause some part of the user base to either not be able to use the software or, at minimum, to do so with a lot of headaches.

People get complacent.  Companies like when that happens, it seems.

But there does come a time when a "mass groove", if you will, occurs (as can be evidenced by many of the changes going on in parts of our world).   This "mass groove" then becomes an outcry.

Also - with all the DAW 2.0 hype, CW raised everyone's expectations.   Ouch.

Speaking only for me, I just reached a point where I felt a 10 year old mature product -- even with a facelift - should have been carefully released.

One thing I can say - for sure:  I will never again trust CW when it comes to 'initial releases' until they show a much better approach to caring about their customers.

It's not that they don't care -- it's that, in my opinion, some decisions were made at the expense of the customer (ie, management may not care as much as they should).

Yes - I understand there are financial pressures and all that.  But at the end of the day, it isn't our job to "manage" their company.   It IS their job to do so.

SO bugs are bugs.  Every software has 'em.   We don't have to eat them for breakfast if we choose not to

I truly get your point Billy and I can't disagree with it. Lets hope that the B patch will get you back to X1. Without your using it and knowing it like you do Sonar in the past we are loosing a great resource in your knowledge.

That's kind of you to say, John - thanks.

But as you notice, I do stay involved.  And I do want to be able to use X1(B or any other letter) as seriously as I do 8.5.3.

FWIW, I did 7 orchestral and other types of TV music cues in the last week all in 8.5.3 -- and I assure you I would not have been able to do so (at least not as efficiently) in X1.

So I definitely await X1B with baited breath.

James I don't see those as show stoppers at all. They may be annoying but they wont stop you from making music.

If you hadn't been able to do that in 8 then is it something you would have even noticed?

I agree. They have not stopped me at all; I continue to work through them. But there are just so many niggling things that piss me off that cumulatively it is becoming unsatisfying to work with Sonar.

And I would have noticed it in V8. Especially when I saw one of Cake's videos doing exactly what I used to do in 8.5.3, "Add nodes at selection", working the same in X1.

Except it doesn't work.

While I am at it: does any one know how to make F8 default to "Split" rather than "Trim"?  For those who use the Tool Hub, it is box #4 from the left.

While not identical to V8 if you have the envelope selected in the edit filter and the smart or select tool active, make the selection and then towards the top half of the clip left click and drag very slightly. Voila 2 nodes, albeit slightly shifted. It can't be that hard for CW to make the nodes stick without the mouse movement though, can it?

To add envelope nodes
1. Set the track’s Edit Filter control to the desired automation parameter (Track Automation or
Clip Automation).
2. Do one of the following:
• With the Smart tool , position the pointer over the envelope where you want to insert a new
node, then double-click.
• With the Smart tool , position the pointer over the envelope where you want to insert a new
node, then hold down the ALT key and click.
• With the Select tool , position the pointer over the envelope where you want to insert a new
node, then double-click.
• With the Move tool , position the pointer over the envelope where you want to insert a new
node, then double-click.
• With the Trim tool , position the pointer over the envelope where you want to insert a new
node, then click.
• With the Split tool , position the pointer over the envelope where you want to insert a new
node, then click. Drag to add nodes at mousedown and mouseup positions.

The Maillard Reaction
The bug list in v8.5 was an source of great frustration for experienced SONAR users.

We don't need to be reminded of what a bad release that was... it was the 3rd year in a row for what I am observing as a trend.

"Biggest show stopper: if you have multiple clip layers overlapping in one track, you can only edit clip automation on the bottom-most clip."

Yuck, I never even got far enough into X1 to know I couldn't do that anymore.

That's a SHOW STOPPER.

AAARRRGH!! I don't know how many times I've been clobbered by that one!!
