  • X2a - Scanning for new plugins requires exiting/restarting SONAR

This never used to be the case, but now, for new plugs to be available, I have to exit and restart SONAR after I've run a VST scan. Is this the intended behavior? That would seem odd given that it never used to be this way. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a setting that controls it? Is it a bug?

Note: I don't have SONAR set to scan on startup as I don't install new plugs that frequently and I don't like the extra time it takes.

Thanks.

No that is not normal. Also having scan on startup will not impose any extra time. If you didn't add a VST it simply wont scan. If you did it will only scan that new VST. Its very quick.

I always restart Sonar...not a big deal to do so for me.

In the preferences menu there is a button on the vst page that lets you scan the vsts right away without having to start up again.

go to your plug in manager and hit re-scan plug ins or re-scan failed plug ins.
if the plug in manager isn't set to scanning on start up, its not going to see your new entrys (newly installed vsts)
you can get there by prefernces/vst or by going to insert/audio plug ins/plug in manager.

One thing I am not clear about is why anyone is restarting after a scan? You do this in other hosts and you will  do nothing but restart. Because most hosts do a full scan on start.

I just like to restart anything after installing something new...computers, cell phones, etc... I few it like adding hardware or new software...I always shut it down and reboot...just a habit I have...I guess I am just anal that way...ummm...and that way ONLY...maybe OCD would be a better term??

VSTs are plugins. They are not programs or drivers. VSTs are meant to be scanned and thus recognized. You don't need to reboot or restart Sonar. If you do this with Cubase for example which will always scan on startup you would never get any further than the scan.

I repeat there is no advantage what so ever in scanning and restarting Sonar.
