Then you might discuss the possibility of using Screen sets, or RBowsers work around.

What work around ?--sorry, not sure what you're referring to.

Mike no one has had the manual until just recently. This includes Scott.

In case no one knows this I do not at present have X1. Nor do I have X1a. I don't even have the hot fix for X1a.

Below is from the manual page 683.
• Use separate Snap to Grid settings in the Clips pane mode and Inline Piano Roll mode

I really miss (unless I just can't find it) the large transport. I really liked being able to put one on my second monitor in console view...and the full track name in CV.....and the send pan controls for narrow tracks in CV....

Thegeek;
It may be a bug. I am reading very odd reports about this issue. Some have confirmed this behavior. What seems to be happening is it in fact is independent but if one uses 16th notes it recombines to the global snap to grid setting. If this is true, and I think it is, its a bug that needs to be reported as such.  Clearly I can neither confirm or deny it not having X1 at present.

Check out Mod Bod's thread on it here.

Yes, you described perfectly what's happening for me - note length and Grid are independent until a 16th note is chosen in PRV, then the "Universal Grid" changes.

Here's the vid posted on Mod Bod's thread:

PRV and Grid

You can see me choosing different note lengths, and then things get messed up once I go to 16th notes.  It becomes totally confusing what the relationship is between PRV and Grid, with the Grid halving its snap value sometimes, and at other times, changing to match the PRV value exactly.

Other people on that thread don't seem to have this problem - I can't figure out what the differences are between what I'm doing and what they're doing.  Am I the only person this is happening to?

But there are many posts about the Grid and its relationship to the PRV - exactly what it's all about is rather murky, since the behavior doesn't seem consistent from user to user.  But we've all seen posts talking about how the 16th note resolution is involved with another issue - the Grid reverting to that when a project is open again.

Confusing stuff, with several reported problems possibly being related.

I suspect they will "fix" the Snap To Grid's behaviour back to like it used to be...separate in the TV and the PRV.  That is how so many of us work it doesn't make sense to leave it as it is.  The best solution now, I think, is this:  Remember that the musical time Snap setting in the Control Bar sets only the grid resolution in the PRV.  So if you have it set to say, measure, then you can only enter one note per measure in the PRV.  If you use the Tool Hud by pressing T while in the PRV you can select a musical time which sets the note value of notes entered.  So...if you wish to enter 4 16th notes in the first beat of a measure in the PRV you will need to have your Control Bar Snap setting at either 32nd or 16th and your Tool Hud setting at 16th.  Etc...etc...etc... you can do the math.  It's really not as convoluted as it sounds and very easy once you get used to it.  But, geeze-louise I hope they fix this.

I don't think so Randy. I believe that as soon the GUI is sorted by the user base and people really understand how and where to do things it will be made more clear. Remember you and others are pioneers that have jumped into this very quickly. It will take some time before all the fallout is done. I hope it is fixed soon.

I have a ways to go before I begin looking at the PRV... but at least I can spell it!
