  • can i use x2 for live performance as a plug-in host?

i'm thinking about  using x2 producer for live performance as a plug-in
host along w/a VJ app that has about a 35% cpu load.
when i use sonar alone w/alchemy soft-synth and sugarbytes turnado
(similar to stutter edit) i see virtually no activity in the cpu meter(sweet)
so i go to the windows cpu meter and it says 18%(still pretty good)
am i missing something,or am i good to go?
that being said, the whole idea could be lunacy....
thanks  m.r.

yeah i've done it with an old 2thread amd processor and sonar x1.  works well as long as you set it up correctly.  i was basically switching midi channels on my controller to control different synths at diff times.  i was also triggering parts using matrix.  worked fine on the athlon II... works even better on the i7.  if you want, pm me with questions about setup and i'd be glad to walk you through what i've done in the past.

cheers.

Hello ST,
that sounds pretty great.
i just installed sonar on the i7 laptop this a.m.
still got a bunch more hoops to jump thru before
i put it thru the paces w/virtual dj.
i was thinking about getting presonus studio1 as well,
but i'm not liking what i hear about the cpu load....
thank-you(and everybody else)for your considerate
reply.
best    m.r.
p.s. the pm heads-up is much appreciated....

you can...just dont know why you would.. there are plenty of standalone VST hosts..minihost, cantabile etc

it does seem more efficient to use an app specific to
the task...
up until a few days ago,i didn't know there were such things...
there were some hosts on dont crack, but they said xp and i'm
using win8(something i'd been putting off.....)
so thanks, time to start searching......   m.r.

A lot of this answer depends on what plug-ins you are going to use.  Some add too much latency to use live.

Cantabile is brill for live!!! Check it out thoroughly before making a decision...Forte is good also, just not as good imo...

brill: a European flatfish (Scophthalmus rhombus, family Scophthalmidae) that resembles a turbot.

I assume you must be a Brit.

 whoah,
latency and flatfish(robyn hitchcock?)
i tried downloading cantabile from the BP site, but
it somehow froze-up.
