Hello all ,

it sure has been a while and I thought it may be a good time for me to get back over here w a clip ….
by doing that it means I will be listening to what everybody here has been up to musically also …

I was thinking about putting together some chord melody and some assorted mini guitar lessons for the techniques section of the forum …
this clip here is  a feeler to see if people are interested in that type of thing  …if you are , let me know .
I may be able to come up with some short concise mini playing clips that are interesting to learn and play.
During this session I was more in the mood to explore w total freedom …what that means is the left hand and the right hand did not know what was gonna happen next ….I was not looking to play in strict time
for recording the guitar ,  I used The Gibson Memory cable …I really like that cable very much.

I hope somebody  enjoys the playing ,

Kenny

This is like a sweet cookie to go with my wake up coffee.

Someday you should grab Davey T. and drive cross country and spend a week or two at my swamp shack... maybe stop by the bayou and pick up Bill too.

One thing I've been wanting to tell you about since our late summer tourist trip along the Oregon coast is that I bumped in to a fellow you might know or might enjoy knowing.

We were waiting in line for dinner at a restaurant and I heard the sound of band setting up around the corner. I thought "oh gawd... I don't want to try to relax and eat while some bar band plays too loud." but we had gone out of our way to spend nights in one boat towns so there we were. Well the band turned out to be a charming surprise as it was a jazz trio and the players were as tasteful as they get. I really enjoyed the music, I mean, these guys were playing music. So nice. We were about ready to go when they announced their break so I got up and walked over to the tip jar, before they stepped out, and we got into a nice conversation. The guitarist said "I saw you over there... you were getting into it" and I said "It was a fantastic surprise to hear you play music". We all smiled and he said "my name is Gragory and this is __ & __." I thanked them and excused myself but I knew I'd look up *Gregory* and *jazz guitarist* when I got home, and sure enough I found info about him immediately.

Anyways, after that, on the next night, in the next town, I half expected to see and hear you playing.

Here's Gregory's info: http://gregernstmusic.com/

I have been thinking that you may enjoy keeping an ear out for him, or that perhaps Oregon is just crawling with monster guitar musicians and you already know all about it. :-)

That was superb..... kinda like listing to Chet or Lester..... just a guitar and chops.

Yeah.... that's what playing guitar is all about IMHO....

I enjoyed that in more ways than one.

Kenny, when I'm not working on a project, I watch guitar video lessons and learn what I can. What  I learn is usually reflected in my music. For example, in my latest tune, Selfie, I show off the jazz inversions I'm learning, and a liberal use of the harmonic intervals I'm finally starting to get the hang of. This is not a shameless plug, but to point out that your video is definitely the type of thing I'm interested in. Break that down phrase by phrase, and in no time, I'm playing Kenny W licks. Why not? I rip off everybody else! Your influences shine through your playing too. You've got one student.

Hello Mike ,

I'm very pleased that I was able to play something on my guitar that gave you enjoyment
Real happy for you that your trip to Oregon went well …
Loved your pictures and road stories BTW, you saw all the places I haven't been to yet.

There's a nice little music scene out here…Ive made some of the rounds …
First I've heard of Gregory …he sounds good .
One fine player that I used to talk with all the time on the phone and e mail exchanges was a fella named
Mark Stefani , I need to get back in touch w him …he is a real fine player and teacher

have a good one ,

Nice playing Kenny! My son has that same Strat (but his is a cheap Mexican one, still plays pretty nice though?) I enjoyed the style, but I think the overall recording needs to be cranked and limited a bit. i.e., preserve the intimate nature, but bring up the overall volume a bit.

I 'm very pleased that you enjoyed my guitar playing on this video  Herb
I have always considered you to be one of the finest Blues guitar players here on the forum .

Chet and Les ..Yeah I wish …..I did hang out with Chet once and he was super nice to me …
With Les , I didn't get to meet him personally one on one  (shake hands and do a hang with him thing )
I did get invited to his 70'th birthday party at The Hard Rock Cafe NYC …I went and it was very memorable …
Jeff Beck was there ( he didn't play ) Tony Bennet sang , some of the guitar players that Les invited up to play were guys like Al Di Meola , Nile Rodgers , Seymour Duncan , Robbie Krieger  , plus a whole bunch of name players that were just as good ….my poor ole memory ..it's starting to act up ….big reason why I bought the memory cable
anyway just so we are clear and people don't think that I think I'm important
I got invited because Heny Goldrich was a very generous kind hearted man to work for at Manny's Music  and he invited the whole store ,,,

thanks Herb , have a great holiday ,

Kenny, Great picking,  I want to learn. Is there a way to download this video?  I would love to learn some of the riffs, but if I can't play back in slow motion I just can't seem to follow the fingers and picking, its something to do with between my ears. I have videos of Dave Gilmore off of satellite tv and try learning his stuff, but there is no sound when playing in slow motion, makes it harder. I have a VLC program on computer that plays sound while video is in slow motion (though not in tune) but helps in following picking and finger placement. Enjoyed very much, capg
