  • What is your opinion on Face shields being sold to be used to hide who a person is?

Serious_Noize!
I was just wondering, there are companies selling these Face Shields that people can buy and use for whatever reason.
What do you think about that?  In my opinion, anyone wanting to hide who they are can't have a good reason to do so, one would think right?

I think they should be illegal, not being sold but being used for anything in public.

I think they are a tool used by people to hide their identity and not be held accountable for their actions in my opinion.

Reminds me of the old pantyhose over the face wearing thieves you'd hear about on the news years ago before there were ski mask and such things used by crooks. Now they are selling what they call - "FACE SHIELDS", which is just one name among many alternate names, they are all products meant to be used to hide a persons FACE which implies hiding their identity - IN MY OPINION.

If I see somebody hiding their face going anywhere in public I automatically have to question why? I don't like this idea of HIDING your face at all. It creates a paranoid presence for all. I think they should be outlawed honestly.

I think if you are out in public you should be required to not hide your face or identity.

What are your thought's on these "FACE SHIELDS" they are selling now?

If someone is protesting and wearing a "FACE SHIELD" or a Bandana to hide who they are, then in my opinion they should be arrested because they are not there to SPEAK THEIR VOICE, you lose that right when you hide who you are and hiding who you are makes you a person of interest that is more than likely there to start trouble. Just my opinion...... NOT POLITICAL - AN OPINION ON A PRODUCT.

"Face Shields" are a cowardly way for people to throw stones and start trouble without facing their victims IN MY OPINION, meaning people wearing them IN MY OPINION are nothing more than cowards & criminals.

What are your thoughts on these so called "Face Shields"? I ask because I see this happening more and more now days on the news. Some people have this idea that "Well they have a right to do that because they may face retribution for their actions", but IN MY OPINION : You are not speaking with YOUR VOICE if nobody knows who you are so if you are hiding your identity then you give up your rights to protest and such things.

Also, Like I said "THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL TOPIC OR DISCUSSION" it's about the use of "Face Shields" which is a "PRODUCT" being sold world wide USING DIFFERENT TERMS FOR THEIR NAME PRODUCT AND USES, which some call Bandanas.

While I have no problem with the product, I think using it to hide who you are is NOT A GOOD THING.

I for one don't wanna go anywhere and see people wearing anything in public at a store or shopping mart covering their face.

Once again, I am asking you : "What do you think about Face Shields"? This is a question to my American friends and family and everyone world wide. Because I for one don't want to see this world turn into a place where somebody thinks it's cool to walk around and HIDE who they are.

I think you are confused about your history. As far as we know facial covering to avoid frostbite have been in use since before written language. Skis dating from 5000 BCE have been found in Russia, and it is likely that those ancient skiers already knew about how to keep your face warm in cold weather. Pantyhose were first released in 1959.

No, I am no confused, what I am talking about is someone going out on a NORMAL day - No weather conditions or otherwise calling for coverage of someones face and that person wearing something to hide their face or who they are.

As for the pantyhose comment, I was referring to old school criminals here in the USA, back in the 70's they were portraying in movies that way.

Although you bring up an interesting point. And like I said : "I'm asking your opinions". Thank you!

Ski mask shouldn't be worn in public though unless it's very cold, but I guess if you are in a country where it's cold most of the year then that's the norm.

I should have been more descriptive. Sorry, I was speaking about where I am at in the USA and this time of year where it very hot in most of the country.

As to the thrust of your point about the right to hide one's face in public, and the presumption that doing so is always evidence of malicious intent, I have to call shenanigans. Victims of facial disfigurement have used diverse means to cloak their faces for centuries, in part out of  respect for the discomfort it might cause onlookers, and in part to avoid the bigoted reaction of strangers. In some Muslim sects wearing the niquab is considered an act of piety. Obscuring the face of an informant to allow him to testify against a bad actor without fear of reprisal is considered good journalistic practice, although concerns about the right to confront an accuser, and ill founded beliefs that the average person can always detect a lie from the facial expression of the liar, make it problematic in some courts. The masked ball or costume party is a modern version of customs that go back for centuries of wearing masks in public without nefarious intent. Masked actors were common in public entertainments long before classical Greek theater.

If you don't like to be around people who wear masks, fine. But really...illegal?

Would you feel safer if this guy was not wearing a mask?

Think about privacy....besides the UK, we are almost the most video surveillance country and getting tagged in a public place and placed on a terrorist list even though you are an average citizen who hasn't done a darn thing, but the computer algorithms built by man put you on that terrorist list and now you are branded or you just don't want the government snooping at your every action, maybe even bending over and letting one rip:)

I asked for OPINIONS, and this one is yours.

But what I am speaking of is a society where people go out and HIDE their face using products to prevent others from KNOWING WHO THEY ARE for nefarious reasons. Would that be okay with you?

It's not about identity, it's about the lack of identity.

So do you think it is okay for someone to hide who they are, protest FOR WHATEVER REASON wearing a "FACE SHIELD"? What entity are they speaking for  by hiding who they are?

When you speak in the public you should always be held accountable for speaking what you have to say, if you HIDE who you are then it's not a protest IT IS AN ATTACK, that is what I am pointing out here. Hiding someones self in public is not appropriate and should be against the law in all countries in public in my opinion with the exception of obviously people with disabilities. In my opinion.

As for privacy, your only tagged if you are using a site that allows such things. And for algorithms, just pull the dang plug on the whole situation, but I'm not going to get into that, because "THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL THREAD" like I have said, it's about the use of "FACE SHIELDS".

There are obvious legit uses for covering your face in public.

But what I am getting at is, selling a product that is specifically made to "HIDE YOUR FACE" or identity. Not to shield you from the weather, not to help with your disability. Nothing more than a device to hide who you......

So what's your point?

I heard a story some years ago how harlequin masks were outlawed shortly after the brinks robbery. In trying to find it (to confirm) I found some reference to a Florida law that outlaws wearing masks. It was originally intended to keep the KKK from hiding their faces so it is an old law. There might be some local statues about not wearing masks in public.

As my opinion, I don't like that some people do it. If it were to be outlawed it would be fine with me.

By the same token, when there are flu outbreaks, some germophobe people may find comfort by having the option to wear a dust mask. Where do you draw the line?
