While working on a project, my ability to click on the expansion tab (? - to the right of the trac name) disappeared. I then could not even grab a hold of the bottom of the trac "window" and pull it down to see my In and Outs, etc. What did I accidentally hit, and how to toggle back to that normal view.

  You may have Auto Track Zoom on. Its in the View menu. If you have the Track Inspector visible it will have all the needed widgets including ins and outs.
