It's been a while, but after a few years, I finally got my system up-and-running again. So...here's my question. I am running Sonar 8 Studio on my main computer. Connections: Computer USB port --> Triton Extreme 88 via USB (for MIDI). Audio outs on my Triton --> mixing board (Behringer Xenyx 2442FX), RCA out --> Behringer U-Control UCA200 USB interface ---> to computer. Here's what I need to do -- play a midi in Sonar (via Triton), and record it into a file. Can I do this in Sonar, or do I need to use a different software program to record it, and then bring it into Sonar after it's recorded? Any/All help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS! :)

It seems to me you already described the routing in your post. Record the audio coming from Triton on an audio track.
Or am I missing something...?

Better way: monitor the Triton directly and record your performance as MIDI data. You can then edit the MIDI if desired, experiment with different patches, or play additional modulations while playing back the MIDI track. Once you're happy with the MIDI track. record the audio (via S/PDIF if that's an option) out of the Triton like any other audio source.

Sean, it seems that something that is obvious to us is tripping you up. So we are not clear on where the problem lies.
I'm going to go super basic here, and may be telling you what you already know.
Verify that you can record sound from the Triton.
Do you see activity on the Xenyx meters?
Do you have the proper input selected for your Audio track and is it armed for record?
Can you record to an audio track when you play the keys on the Triton?
In Options>MIDI Devices, is the Triton selected as an output device?
Is the output of the MIDI track set to the Triton?
Is the MIDI track sending on the right channel?
Is the Triton receiving on the right channel?
Is there a setting on the Triton to receive from an external MIDI source? You may need to check your manual on this one.
If you have established a complete signal path, then yes, what you want to do is possible.
If not, let us know where you are stuck.

If that is the little audio interface they ship with Behringer mixers you may have problems getting Sonar to recognize it as an audio device.  There are no drivers, Sonar does not like that. Other software will work but normally not Sonar, try asio4all. 

The other thing about those interfaces is the sound quality is not very good,,  I have/had one that came with my mixer and it was basically useless. I think they value them at $30 which says it all. 


Go to audio options in Sonar and make sure the UCA200 is checked as the in/out device. If it is grayed out and your on board card is checked, uncheck your on board and then check the uca200

Thanks for the advice, you guys. Also, just FYI -- I am a MASTER! A MASTER at either giving TOO MUCH information, or simply NOT ENOUGH! LOL! ;) Here's the SIMPLE version: I want to take a MIDI file that I have created in Cakewalk/Sonar (about 8 channels of MIDI data) and make an AUDIO file out of it (WAV, MP3, etc.). The AUDIO file will then be pulled into a NEW AUDIO MIX (probably just 4 channels), where I can add BASS, GUITAR, and VOCALS to it. My MIDI data (from Sonar to Triton Keyboard) is sent via a USB cable from the computer to the Triton. This works fine. No problem. My Triton goes through the Xenyx Mixer and out to the P.O.S. UCA200 USB I/O device. It is listed and works (okay) with the rest of the instruments if I'm just playing keyboard, bass, vocals, etc. through the board on their own. (I used to have an M-Audio DiO 2448 card, but it will not work with the computer that I have due to height restrictions.) Thanks for the continued help. So what I'm not understanding then is if everything is working, why you havn't recorded the audio output of the Triton into Sonar? 

But your working in a difficult way. As Bit said, You leave the MIDI as MIDI and carry on recording your audio, There is no reason to use the audio track right away, This way you can still edit and make changes.. The best way to work is you use Soft Synths inserted in Sonar. No need to use outboard equipment. Almost every sound possible is available as a soft synth. 
But you can still use your outboard synth and it will play along with your song and at some point you can record it into a stereo audio track.

Okay, so I have added bass, guitar, some extra percussion, and vocals as AUDIO tracks to the file. The MIDI file is just as I want it (how it plays from the Triton) So...how do I consolidate everything down into an AUDIO ONLY file (e.g. MP3, WAV, etc.,) or something that I can burn to CD? My biggest barrier, is that I've used traditional analog tape for so many years, and this is my first go at doing it this way. I'm trying to keep it all in Sonar/Computer. What the heck am I missing? Appreciate the help SO MUCH!! :)

You "export" the mix. Sonar will create a WAVE ( or MP3 if you paid for the codex) of your mix . It's super easy. 
Make sure to either Select all CTRL A. and then from the file menu select export audio. 
Change the settings to 44.1 / 16 for CD. Name the song etc. that's it/
