  • Using Sonar 8 Studio to PLAY a MIDI file, and RECORD the audio output? (p.2)

So when I "export" it -- it will somehow have the sounds of the Triton included? I only ask, because I DO NOT want any other "synth" sounds. I have modeled these just the way I like them. Thanks again! You've been a SUPER help for me!

It can only export audio tracks and midi via a soft synth which produce audio automaticly during mixdown.
If the Triton is playing "live" it cannot be included in the export. As we have been saying, you would need to record the output to a stereo audio track first. I believe that was your first question right.
In the old days we mixed down to a stereo tape deck or a DAT. This was done in real time as we adjusted the mix on the mixing board.

The benefit of using a DAW is that this is done via a "fast bounce" and takes 10- 30 seconds to mix down a song.
But to do this all the sound must be contained within the DAW project.

So run your MIDI to the Triton and record the Tritons audio output  and your good to go.
You'll get it.

"As we have been saying, you would need to record the output to a stereo audio track first." "So run your MIDI to the Triton and record the Tritons audio output and your good to go." Exactly. So...my question is this...what is the best way to record my midi track into an audio file? Can this be done within Sonar? (e.g. PLAY the MIDI file while RECORDING the output at the same time?) Or...should I use Sonar to play the MIDI file, and use another program to capture the AUDIO? <-- the latter seems the most likely at this point, but just want to bounce this off of you. Thanks again!

Most definitely yes.
And it appears you are already set up to do it.
Read through my previous post(#5) again.
If you have any questions at all, please ask.

So my ultimate question is -- how do I set up Sonar to accomplish this? Do I need to open TWO separate projects (e.g. one for the MIDI file, and one for the Audio?) I found and loaded my old copy of Sound Forge 9.0, and can do this, but would rather just do it ALL within SONAR if possible. Thanks again. Yep...I'm kind of a problem child. ;) ~S

No. As others have said, you can simultaneously playback the MIDI track through your keyboard and record the playback on an audio track. Set the audio track to record. Press record to start the playback/record. Its actually quite easy. Just do it!

Success! :) Found a small routing problem via MIXER and output in Sonar. Happy camper!! Thanks for the great help! :)
