I will say this Red. At least this is a lot more interesting thread then the X2 vs Cubase thread.

That's ok... I bring the entertainment.  Get me a few drinks and I bring even more.

I agree that a phone is too small for most things, but an iPad is getting there.

Won't a larger tablet (if they exist) also work ?

Isn't that more or less what you were asking for, Rick ?

Hey Paul, yes, at least an iPad sized tablet.

I've been running TouchDaw on my Kindle Fire HD.  A 9"-hires display is plenty of room even for the fat-fingered user.  The Kindle has a huge wireless access range. I could probably control SONAR from the street outside.

Hey Rob, how do you like it? Do you find it useful?

This is actually the first time I ever used a control surface and I do like it.

You need to download and run a virtual MIDI port application on your studio PC.  I chose rptMIDI.  When I start a session it takes about 30 seconds to run rptMIDI and set up TouchDaw.  I also set the Kindle to "not sleep".  The operation of the controls in TouchDaw is smooth with no noticeable lag.

I'm just getting used to operating on 8 tracks at a time.  Maybe I will re-organize my projects to work better with "8-track" sets.

I think they also have a free version you can try.

Splashtop allows me to remote into my computer and fully manipulate my windows OS     and anything running on it.
If i can do it with my computer then i can do it remotely via splashtop.
in my studio or on stage, i can move away from my pc and operate it in the soundbooth or out front of stage with any mobile device, ipad, android or windows laptop.

That way i dont have to have a control surface capability. the screen emulation provided lets me operate the software like i was there.
