Lynn
Here's a song that I started on Halloween night while waiting for trick or treaters.  It's done entirely in Sonar X3e and the first song that I used Addictive Drums 2 all the way through.  I'm very open minded about this mix since it's so new, so any constructive criticism is welcome.  Thanks in advance for your replies.

Joshua Barnes (aka Ruralrocker) dropped by my studio the other day and offered some suggestions about the arrangement and mix.  On this new version, the guitar plays between the lead vocal lines in the first two verses, rather than through them.  And, he gave me a new idea for the lead-in to the guitar solo after the first bridge.  I have grown fond of this version.  What do you think?

11/26/14 - taking Bob Oister's suggestion, I bumped up the guitar solo a smidgen.

Do I detect a touch of Nectar Elements on the backing vox?

The mix appears to translate well here though the lead vox could come up a tad or perhaps a little less reverb, but what would I know about vocals.

Thanks for sharing

Hey Lynn,

Kick sounds great, vocals are your usual great job. The crash cymbal on the left is distracting. It sounds disjointed, like it isn't part of the kit. I'd also bring the snare up a bit (once everything comes in) and add a tad more snap to it. Sounds like you added some distortion to the toms, which sounds fine, but they are buried in the mix. You may need to pan them more or carve out some space for them from the bass, which is where they are buried, I think. It's hard to tell from the stream @160bit. The rest of the instruments sound very good.

I like the slap echo on the lead vocal, but it would be cool to hear that echo go wide, but not too loud.

Lastly, that lead guitar is also buried too much. It could use a delay or motion so it stands out more.

Of course, all of this is my opinion. I just hear a different, bigger mix in my head for this cool song.

Regards,
Dan

Wookie, Dan thanks for your ears and time.  Note that I have already made changes due to your comments.  I hope I was able to incorporate your suggestions.  If not, I'm all ears.

Wookie, you are right about the Nectar Elements.  It's on one clip in the 2nd bridge to give the single backup some body.  Great furry ears!

Wow. Nice classic rock vibe Lynn. Your vocals are excellent as always. I like that organ and guitar playing fits into it all well ....a scary kind of theme. I hope he never visits my house ;;;:) Anyho...it's great stuff!!!! I enjoyed the listen!

Lynn,

This mix is definitely better. Lead guitar is still quite hard to hear, but the other elements are better placed and clearly audible. Good job!

Dan

Cool tune. I like the groove and the timing in this.   Not the "normal" meter..... which is cool.

Variation on a blues theme.

Yeah turn the guitar UP^^^^

Nice work.

I take it the trick or treaters stayed away? ;-)

Nice track. I think it's a little to mid rangy or maybe it needs more bottom?

Well done! I like it!
