Is there any Logic in using Reason when Sonar gives you all the Pro Tools you need to be a Digital Performer?

I'm sorry. The Rack was a Spanish Inquisition tool, so I don't need no stinkin' Rack extensions.

In Reason you can't drag n drop midi or change an instrument on a track. These are simple mundane things every DAW can do.

I like Reason.  the simplicity is really nice as it's all in the program.  does have limitations though I will admit that.

Reason is one of the most stable DAW programs I have, largely due to the all in the program nature and not supporting 3rd party plugins.

not seeing a huge need to jump on the latest version though.  I'll wait for a $99 upgrade sale and pick up v9 then or may even wait til v10.

Agree it's the most sable our there if you stay away from rack extensions.
I don't think Reason ever drops the price of their upgrade.  You have to rely on Jrr for a discount.

By that logic, Sonar is equally as stable... provided you don't use plugins.

wellllllll no not really.  Sonar come with 3rd party stuff and some of the plugins had to be updated during various versions and crashed a lot.  even some of the ProChannel had issues the ones included with X1 Pro, not talking about the extra paid ones.

Not trying to really start anything.  Reason really is very stable with the included rack system and Propellerhead really do hammer out the bugs.  but it's limited, and no VST support and as someone already pointed out track issues with midi and swapping out instruments.

I got Reason 7 for REX support and to be able to make my own REX samples for Stylus RMX.  Plus I use it as a big large plugin through rewire sometimes.

Reason is quite capable as a DAW with some really good synths etc (Thor is awesome!). Reason is not going to make anyone quite using ProTools, Sonar or Cubrase.

BTW I own and use Reason 7, Cubase 7.5, ProTools 10/11, FL Studio 11/12 and of course Sonar X1, X2, X3 and now Splat.

I like Sonar the best but all my tool share a purpose and place in my toolbox.  but $129 seems a bit steep for a lackluster update that v9 is for me and unless there is a sale or some bundle of rack REs or something I probably won't upgrade.

That was a joke. I use to be a huge Reason fan till I bought 6.5.
