Also, make sure there isn't some kind of rogue process constantly eating up a lot of CPU cycles in the background. Launch Task Manager, then look at the CPU column on the Processes tab when your machine is idle. There's also an App history tab there, although it's unlikely apps are causing the problem. You should probably turn off live tiling on all of the apps anyway though.

do you have asio4all installed?  it can cause problems with other asio drivers on your system (noticed this with my m-audio).  another thing - go to C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer  and rename aud.ini aud-old.ini then restart sonar.  under preferences/audio/configuration file scroll to the last option "dropoutmsec" and bump that up a bit.

No asio4all here. I followed your post suggestions and still have dropouts. I think I need to go back to the vista64 setup at this point. The dropout problem is probably fixable, but I have a deadline to meet and will have to have a go at this later. I'm also thinking that maybe it's time to start looking at a usb type audio device that has solid win8 drivers to replace the 1010. Even though, the 1010 is has been a sweet sounding interface.

Thanks

I looked at the TM and nothing stood out...

Are you using Wifi on your music pc? Also did you install Win 8 over the top of vista? Both of these gave me problems.
A clean C drive install of win 8 and latest wifi driver made a big difference.

Also if your project has several audio automation envelopes you may well need to increase your audio file buffer to help prevent crackles and pops.

Finally have you got the Win 8 updates installed? There were issues with loading audio drivers in Win 8  until mid Jan

@max

I have wifi and I did install over top of Vista (the wifi doesn't cause any issues with Vista64). I don't have crackles and pops, I always increase the buffer size when mixing. However, the dropouts are showstopping.

Also have all the updates for Win 8  installed. So last night I rolled back to Vista and everything works great again. I'll upgrade with a clean install of Win8 in the future or I may buy Windows 7 as well and try that since so many interface providers are slow with Win8 drivers. It's somewhat of a pain since I'm happy enough with Vista's performance of getting the job done with no heartache, but the future upgrades of sonar is backing me into a corner to upgrade the OS.

Thanks

Problem solved and it was so easy and in hindsight - a face palm moment.

I had to re-register the Voxengo Plugin Suite. There was an instance of CurveEq on the master buss and since it was operating in demo mode, I was getting occasional silence on the Master Buss and appeared to be drop-outs. Which in a way they were...  :)

But not Sonar or Delta1010 or Windows 8 issues.

Thanks for all the help I received on this!!

I know - it was a little painful to post the solution to the dropouts I was having. However - I thought it might help someone else who updated from another OS thinking all the vst information transferred.
