Happily reading through the wealth of information on this forum, I have noticed a high level of experience and knowledge. Also, a willingness to share and help. So, if you want to share; post your favorite plugin and how you use it or any hard won tip or trick. I use Producer 8.5, so I am particularly interested in info. relating to it. Looking forward to reading them. WCO PS For example I just started using reverb on my master or on a bus rather than on individual tracks, seems to help with having a less "cluttered" sound. I like the Sonitus reverb.

To make kick drum tracks stand out, I like to use a Pultec-style EQ and do the low-end boost+cut "trick".

Set the Pultec's Boost to around 3 or 4 & set the Atten to around the same value.
I typically set the Low Freq to 60.

As I understand how Pultec EQs work on those 3 low-end knobs, is the Boost is a wide boost (lower Q value) and the Atten is more narrow (higher Q value), so you end up with a "wavy" boost/cut/boost around that low freq.

Boost/Atten settings between 3 & 4 work real nice to bring out a good thumpy definition as opposed to just turning up the kick to make it louder.

If you want to get fancy schmancy, I got a nice full kick sound doing this:
Bounce the MIDI kick track twice:
 - one with a 22" kick with a felt beater.
 - one using a 24" kick with a plastic beater.

Do the Pultec thing above on each track, but set the Low Freq to 60 hz on the 22"/felt and set the LF to 30hz on the 24"/plastic track. Blend track volumes to taste.

Mess with the Boost & Atten values to go from subtle to drastic.

I use Overtone's PTC-2A.

I guess my favorite, as measured by frequency of use, is FabFilter Pro-Q, my go-to equalizer. I use it on tracks and busses, including the master bus. My favorite trick is to use its Mid/Side capability to alter width perception. Check out Dan Worrall's videos on the Fabfilter site for some good tips, many of which are applicable to any EQ.

Second-most-used would be Fabfilter's Pro-C, primarily on tracks but sometimes as a bus compressor. Favorite trick: using its sidechain filter to zero in on specific resonances. Second-favorite trick: using its Mid/Side capabilities for widening.

Voxengo SPAN gets used on every project, too. An indispensable plugin, IMO. Favorite trick: using it to gauge average RMS and overall spectrum for mastering (put it into Mastering mode, with the K-14 metering option).

Channel Tools also gets used quite often, on pretty much every stereo track, for panning. It's the only bundled plugin that I use on almost every project. Favorite trick, though not often: boost the Side component for widening.
