Hello, I'm trying to add a bass track using SI Bass. I can hear it and the input meter is showing when I play it but when I arm the track to record there's no input??? There's gotta be a way to do this. Need help. Thanks

How have you set it up? You are recording on a MIDI-track, right?

Check to make sure this option is activated... press P to access Preferences. Then choose the MIDI > Playback and Recording category. Then put a checkmark next to the option called Always Echo Current MIDI Track.

Scott, it looks like that's set by default.

Yes of course. When I play the bass, the input meter's going. But when I have the track armed to record, the input meter is basically grayed out. It's weird.

I think I'm halfway there. I inserted SI Bass the same way I do Session Drummer. I get an input reading whenever I play it with or without the record button engaged. But...I still can't record the bass track. Even though I've armed it and there's an input coming in, when I play the bass there's nothing showing up on the recording. I'm playing the bass with my mouse or with a preset rhythm.

You cannot record the SI Bass by manipulating the SI Bss GUI, that is strictly for auditioning purposes. To record SI Bass without a MIDI keyboard either drag the patterns to the track, use the step sequencer or the Piano Roll View to enter the MIDI notes.

And there it is.
You cannot record SI by playing the bass with your mouse.
What you are seeing is not an input reading, but an output reading.
SI and other synths provide triggers, such as onscreen keyboards in the GUI, for auditioning purposes.
These trigger the synth directly, and bypass the MIDI track, which is where the data actually needs to be recorded.
You can record to the associated MIDI track with an external controller.
Or, you can enter notes in the PRV.
The preset rhythm patterns can be dragged to your MIDI track, and will play back.
With SI, or any soft synth, you don't record the sound. You record the MIDI data that triggers the sound.
This is a notoriously confusing concept for new users to grasp.
If you insert the synth by selecting MIDI Source Track and First Synth Audio Output, instead of Simple Instrument Track, it is a little easier to understand what is really happening.
