Have a laptop, USB only with no slot to insert a firewire card. Is there a device available that will let me connect my firewire interface into the USB port of the Laptop? thanks.....

There are adapters out there, but I cannot tell you that they work for audio processing, due to fundamental differences in transfer protocols.  There seems to be debate on this out there on the web - I certainly do not know for sure one way or the other, but then again, multiple companies seem to have gone out and made these kinds of adapters.

Thanks for everyone trying to help.  I too have seen these adapters for sale but I don't get any warm fuzzies about them.  Oh well... I could always take a USB and Firewire cable and splice them together.  that should work, right?

Careful: FireWire carries a LOT of power. That's why folks who stick USB plugs into a FW port are always damaging stuff.

You are joking, right?? :)

Even if something of the sort exists, I certainly wouldn't trust or use it. There's so much potential for throughput, jitter, latency, etc. issues. I would also imagine any such converters rely heavily on applications' ability to perform error-correction, which is not always an option in audio.
