The once every 5 years question... the one that happen when you 1) clean install the OS and 2) you install a new version of Sonar....: Where do I place the Master.ins (my MIDI instruments definitions) ?

I'm now under Windows 8 (if that makes a difference... but with a ''classic'' look and feel with a START button though...so instructions such as for Windows 7 will do..., and SONAR X2.

Tks

I put mine in the X2 content folder, you can always point SONAR to that directory when you're setting up your instrument definitions pathways. How did you get a START button for Win 8?

Ok will try this.

Button : called Start8 from Stardock Software.  Think it was $4.95 or $9.95... But worth it ! You still can choose between "win8 native look and feel" or the old fashion - which frankly i prefer with lots of other more important things to master than the "tablet" look on a pc...

If you installed on your C drive, then you should find it here...
C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X2 Producer\instruments

Mine is here in Windows 8

C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X2 Producer

It would appear to be a popular file. It exists in three places that I know of. The "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\SONAR X2 Producer" version is copied to the user home directory "AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X2 Producer" and then there is another instance in "Cakewalk Content\SONAR X2 Producer\instruments" A little confusing.

I'm with Scook. I never did know where the 'right' place was, so I put my updated one wherever I found an original master.ins file. I also think it was three places.

Thanks John, looks like your option is the one that worked for me.  I also followed Scott's recommendation, but did not work for some reason. It is at boyh places anyway.

Thanks everyone.

Hey Rob,

Yeah, sorry about that. The other locations are just copies. The AppData location in Windows is where applications usually store user-based data. I honestly don't know why Cakewalk has the other copies of the same file.

Thanks, John!
