  • How Do You Recover Accidently Deleted Soft Synths?

Dang it fellas!...I did something really dumb last night…..there’s a song I’ve been working on for a long while and am almost finished tracking, but last night after messing around with some different plugins I accidently deleted my Ezdrummer soft synth. The deleted version was also saved before I realized what had occurred.

Of course, all the data is there reflected in the clips and lanes. I can get the master audio to sound by routing the output to EZ, but the individual drum tracks are doing nothing, no matter how I route the outputs for them.

So, is there a way for me to restore the Ezdrummer tracks, or am I stuck using an earlier saved version, which will require some re-tracking of other things?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

You mean you also clicked the [OK] in the Delete Soft Synth dialog box that opened after you mistakenly clicked the Delete Synth button? Or are you using X1?

You should be able to just re enter the synth and every thing go back to how it was. You will have to manually set each drum track to it's individual out, IF you set up multiple outs...whatever settings you did within EZ Drummer you will have to do over, but everything done from the track standpoint should not be changed...If I am wrong here I am sure someone will corrrect me...good luck!

I’m using X2 Pro…I’m half blind as is; so, what happened was I had pulled up a couple of soft synths just to play around with for a minute and thought I was deleting them. Instead I deleted EZdrummer, which held all my drum tracks. I didn’t immediately recognize the mistake because…well, I’m half blind…as mentioned…..so, by the time I did realize what had occurred the new version (the one with the deleted EZdrummer soft synth) was saved; so, the old data wasn’t immediately recallable.

So, for simplicity’s sake, I had EZ loaded on track 5 as a MIDI track with it setup so that all the sub tracks (kick, top snare, bottom snare, each tom, and each cymbal) could be controlled separately.   The clip data is still showing up, and I can route the master EZdrummer track to EZdrummer for the output, and that works. The problem is I no longer have anything happening with the MIDI sub tracks. In other words, I can’t control the kick, the snare, the HH, etc. individually any longer, no matter how I route those outputs. ….does that make sense?

Load up from your last backup project (you do have backups yes?)

If you didn't make any change to the EZ Drummer tracks, why not create a track template in the earlier saved version and load it in the latest version and just move the clips? (I'm not sure if this is the best way, though)

If you deleted the softsynth, just run a VST Scan and it should come back.

If you deleted the track completely and then saved the project, then I hope you have autosave turned on.

Hmmm...I would double check your routing. Check to make sure your inputs and outputs for each of your sub tracks(snare, kick, etc.) are routed correctly...I have had your same issue before and routing was the issue...ALSO MAKE SURE the Input echo is enabled as this has bitten me more than once!

if you still have the midi data, just reload ez drummer and drag the midi data to the top ex drummer soft synth mid track.

and next time pay attention  :)

Thanks guys…no the tracks themselves aren’t deleted…they’re still there….EZdrummer is still available as a soft synth, and I did reload it. Like I said, there’s playback on the master audio and MIDI tracks, but I was unable to get the individual tracks to play back. I’m not sure why that is. I’ll have to try some more troubleshooting tonight.

And yes, worst case scenario, I do have a previous version saved; it’s just not the latest. I’ve cut a couple of tracks since that save, and I really don’t want to retrack again if I can avoid it.

Thanks again,

Chris
