Personally, I think, certain posters should back off this constant bashing of Toons.

The guy has identified a problem, worked out a - lengthy - solution to the problem, posted it on here for others to benefit from at, I suspect, considerable time investment, and all some of you do is whine about it "not being in the right forum" (so presumably in your minds if it's moved to Cakewalk Instruments the problem will miraculously cure itself ), and, most curiously, the fact that it's a free product is an indicator that it's perfectly ok if the instrument, or more correctly, the sample sets that come with it, are of second rate quality? Do me a favour.

What would your reaction be if some of the patches in, for example, DimPro exhibited the same behaviour?

If you can't add anything constructive to the discussion, maybe you shouldn't contribute at all.

Free? Part of my desicion to buy Sonar was the built in drum program and I paid for the package as a whole. What do you mean, free?

There is zero degree of appropriateness in this group of threads. Essentially I see this as a lot of unwarranted garbage complaining over an easy to use  free instrument whose functionality and sound quality is deliberately and appropriately restricted...its free (duh!)

Got a problem?.. want something better?.. There is a whole range of instruments to choose from.. and speaking of instruments, I sincerely hope the mods move this rant thread group to the appropriate forum..which is "cakewalk Instruments"... not "Sonar X1"

+1

a new thread 3 days in a row now complaining about session drummer 3.
its packaged free in sonar x1 producer.

not to mention this isnt even in the right forum.
like mystic said, this is a cakewalk instrument.

Even Session Drummer 2 is $9.99 in the CW store.

SD3 must be worth (at least) $10.99?

After reading this thread and some others, I must state that I agree with Bristol.

SToons hasn't done anything other than post about a problem he found.

As Bapu points out, Session Drummer 3 is a stand alone product for sale.

And as Swede Pete points out, you do pay for it when you buy the "Whole Shabang"

Thank you SToons for pointing this problem out. I tried to use your SFZ file, but Sonar said it couldn't find a sfzlog file and asked if I wanted to create one. I said yes but still no go. Not really sure what to do to try this.

Good work toons. Rather than simply complaining, you've done a lot of leg work to prove what you are finding and giving me an education in the process.

Not everyone can afford to buy a new drum sampler on a regular basis. The quality of SD3 samples is the reason I bought Kontakt. The lack of sample layers makes it playback roughly. At first I thought it was the control pads but after I started using Studio Drummer and Battery I realised it was the SD3 samples. Now you tell me that it's maybe not the samples, but instead the way they were used.

This is an opportunity for Cake. They could mod those SFZ files and call it SD4. You should put in a feature request.

Stoons can now enter the brave world of SFZ coding.

I'm totally with Jonsey and Grem on this too.
I read stoons posts and there was disappointment yes but to call it bitter ranting and diatribe is over reacting to say the least. It seems a few people took his post in utterly the wrong way and just wont let it go.
I've seen plenty of posts on here by Stoons that are very helpful and it's obvious he knows what he's talking about.

I should add that these are the first post I've read by SToons (not been on here so much recently so I had no idea if his other posts were helpful or just more ranting diatribes as some seem to think. I did a search and found many of them very helpful and I suggest others do the same before they make such accusations.

Thanks guys (girls?) I do appreciate the thoughtful responses. For what it's worth I'm still working on the SD Old Zep Dry kit when I can. It's pretty frustrating at times but there are noticeable improvements. Another good example are the hats. Program in ten or so consecutive open hat hits at a velocity of 120 and the resulting hits have variations of up to 10dB because none of the samples were normalized or even matched in amplitude (sigh) so I have to dissect each individual hit, measure it and then compensate in a text file (sighs again). I suppose if one wants their drum programming to be automatically "humanized" to sound like someone having seizures this works well but I prefer just a tad more control. Frankly, if this was for my benefit only the solution would be a joke...de-flac the samples, batch normalize in Audition, map in Battery 2. End of story. When I'm done the SD editing I'll post the entire kit.

Wow...I found this helpful and entertaining to read myself...I have seen in here where there are some strong opinion and there may be a place in Congress for a few....I myself, unless someone is downright rude, do not waste my time with such banter...but I am far less experienced here than many, nor do I make my living off music...cheers and have a good morning as I have aircraft engines to build!
