Hi all.. Is there a way to use an FX on part of a track. I'm using the Cakewalk drum set and want to add some EQ, but only to the drum solo section of the drum track. I could cut and paste those bars to another track and just add the FX there, but would like to use just one track for the drums if possible. Any thoughts?

You can automate the EQ, assuming the ones in SHS are automatable.

Usually if it's an 'extreme' bit of EQing (for example if you want to make a section of the drums sound like a radio or add a huge bouncey delay or something), I would always highlight all drum tracks involved just for those few bars and bounce them down into one new track. I find it easier than having to automate on the same track if the rest of the track is being left as it is.

Then, if you like what you've created, you can chop it up and fit it in other parts of the track really easily.
However, I'm gonna upgrade to Sonar X2 soon and make full use of the 'automation lanes' which look soooo good (droools).

Hi all... I guess that was the kind of answer I was expecting, but thank you both for taking the time to answer. Mike

Many effects are automatable; some are not.
I also have SHS 6 and I just tried out the Sonitus EQ as a test. It is automatable.
Just select one of the presets (or create your own to use), click the W (Write) in the upper right corner of the Sonitus GUI, click Play and move the EQ balls up and down as the track plays. those movements are recorded in the track and the nodes created can be moved after the track is automated, if desired.
If your first test(s) don't turn out well, just click on the envelope line in the track and delete, then try again.
I forget where I got Sonitus, if it was included with SHS 6 XL or I got it somewhere else, but whatever effects you have and want to try automating, there should be a W or some other indication in it's GUI that it is automatable. In many effects and synths, clicking their GUIs and pressing the computer keyboard's F1 key will bring up it's Help files.
Good luck!
