  • Dislike Of X2 - 8.5.3 Install Question

If I try to install 8.5.3 while X2 is still on my PC will it cause problems?
Should I just wipe X2 off the PC to play it safe?

Mike just try it. If it does cause problems with X2 then you can uninstall X2. You don't want to use it anyway.

You shouldn't have any problems due to all versions are installed into their own folders.

Thanks John.
I know that certain things wind up being shared and that's why un-installing previous versions is not a good idea unless you do it before the new version is installed.
I was just wondering if the same holds true for old over new installs.

It'll probably be fine but to be safe you could just create a restore point. If it does screw up just restore and then uninstall X2. Cheers.

Yes, I'm pretty certain the same holds true. The 8.5.3 install will probably overwrite any shared items. But like John suggested, you could just try it and see what happens. Worst case is it will take more time to clean up and reinstall again if it doesn't work.

Sorry for the repeat post.

You can also back up the drive by imaging it first with software such as Acronis True Image. That's what I do to ensure that I don't get stuck with a messed up system when installing different things.

If you do end up uninstalling X2 use CCleaner to do it (back up all you projects first though). I'm not sure how thorough the Sonar uninstaller is but CCleaner will flush out everything associated with a program. Lots of included uninstallers leave little bits and bytes behind. That said though you could reinstall X2 after you do all this so you can work in 8.5 then if you want to get at the fancy stuff in X2 you can just toss the project into it and polish things up. Cheers.

If it overwrites the plugin manager, the impact may not be immediately obvious. There was a bit of work done in X2a to address issues with VST plugins. Problems may not show up until you add more plugins or reset and rescan existing plugins. If it were my machine and I wanted to return to a previous version, I would remove the newer version(s) first.
