I have just bought a PreSonus DX 8 channel preamp for recording drums, and it's lightpiped into my RME soundcard. My problem is that SONAR only offers me ADAT channels 1,3,5 and 7 (L, R, and stereo) as inputs/outputs. I need all 8 channels for drums. Any suggestions? Thanks. Steve

You have all 8 channels represented there. 1L is channel 1, 1R is channel 2, etc. So 7L is channel 7 and 7R is channel 8. That's just the way SONAR labels them. Each channel is mono and to get a stereo input, you have to pair the channels. So channels 1 and 2 would be a stereo pair with 1 representing left and 2 representing right.

Thanks very much. One more question - what should I set the playback and recording timing master to? Again, my choices seem to be 1, 3, 5 and 7. Thanks again for the explanation. Also, I'm limited to 6 channels. Is that a SONAR thing or an RME thing? I thought the RME was capable of more inputs than that. Steve
