To me, pause means stop where you are, make no markers etc, then pause again will restart a that spot. Play means start play at the last start position. But AFAICS, Pause means stop here, place a new start position here, then if I pause again start playing...._but now play will start at the last _Pause_ position, not the last playfrom position (well it is, but only because Pause is aggressive, according to me). I have really come up against this because Space Bar is actually Play, not pause, so I tried to change that. I think there is an option somewhere, but the above scenario made it confusing to me. Then I discovered Ctrl-Spacebar and suddenly it was obvious that Pause was not doing what I expected. Is there a way to Pause, that does nothing but Pause, the play from there if I hit Pause again? That is what I would expect of most transports. Any help appreciated.

There is a pause button on the transport. I am not sure what Oldnick is asking. If I get it pause is not allowing one to go back to say the beginning but rather only to the pause point.

Because I use the Mackie Control 99 % of the time I use its pause and there is a return to zero button on it. So I never see this problem. W is the keybinging to return to zero.

Also, pressing W during playback acts like a pause (return to Now Time). I'm not sure if that's what the OP is looking for, though.

"ctrl + spacebar "....Yeah I got that and I think I said it. But I expect Pause o pause, then start..not set a new Stop position. THAT is my main gripe.

"what ? " well if you can't work it out then I guess you can't help me and maybe I expect more of this software than you do. I have learned to over ...30...years.

Right, I get it but what would you like it to do?

If you're starting from last position, then, press Ctrl+W during playback. The next time you hit pause, you will pause on the spot AND your playback will also continue from this point, just like a real pause function.

To resort back to starting from last position, press Ctrl+W again. You can keep switching back and forth as per your needs. It's actually pretty convenient. I like to use both ways in certain situations.
