I have DR-880 and was wondering about purchasing Superior Drummer...seems to get high marks. I'm wondering how this would work with my DR880? Anyone using a control surface with SD2.0 and liking it? I came across a really good deal and am ready to jump...advice or opinions welcomed!

Hey Frostysnake,

I use Superior Drummer with my Roland TD-12 kit and it works very well.  I would expect it would work very well with the DR-880, but to be honest you probably won't use the DR-880 much once you hear the sounds and purchase some of the MIDI packs available for the Superior Drummer kits.

I don't use any of the sounds or midi patterns available with my Roland kit because the ones the you can get designed for Superior Drummer are that much better.

If you can get it at a good price, I say go for it.  You won't regret it.

Hope this helps,
Tom

Yeah...I just use the DR as a controller and for quick pattern building...I'm really liking what I have heard on Toontracks site...I am also getting the Metal Foundary as a bonus, so it is looking very good that I will purchase...how well does it integrate with Sonar? Is it a resource hog?

Superior Drummer runs fine in SONAR. Depending on what else you load up 4GB of RAM might be a little tight. There are ways to conserve memory in SD but it might be a good idea to bump up your RAM if you find yourself a resource starved. I do not own it but I believe the Metal Foundry is one of the largest SD kits.

BTW, I doubt Toontrack has updated their install procedure. If you want to run the 64bit version of SD, it is only available as part of the 2.3.1 update download in your account. Makes install a little more difficult than necessary.

Thanks Scook...I will keep that in mind as I assumed it was just included in the box...

So did I. The other think about Toontrack is that they apparently do not send out notifications when they update the software.

Cool...I am a bit of OCD and pretty much do that on my own when it comes to keeping software up to date...lol

I haven't gotten into TOOOOOO much yet, but if almost feels like I'm missing something here because just about everything you would do in SD2 you can do directly in Sonar.  In a way it feels like I pissed away money on the crossgrade.
