Toontrack products work great in Sonar, as long as you do waht Scook says and get the latest updates and follow the instructions carefully when you install them.

If you have resource issues you have the option of loading the 16 bit kits in Superior Drummer, which use a lot less resources. There was some considerable debate about whether the difference was audible or not, but you can always change to the 24 bit samples for the final bounce to audio.

I had no issues when I was using it with 6 GB RAM unless I had a bunch of big Kontaky libraries going at the same time so if add another 4 GB of RAM and you won't have any worries at all.

Toontrack on the whole are one of the best plugin vendors out there.

I've never had any install issues and their support is second to none.

After years.of mucking around trying to write my own drum tracks Toontracks Midi packs have been a god send.

I was so impressed by the sample quality that I have all the Superior sdx packs. Now that they have expanded their repertoire to the Ezmix and Ezkeys line of products they are my go to vendor when I cant record the real thing.

I haven't gotten into TOOOOOO much yet, but if almost feels like I'm missing something here because just about everything you would do in SD2 you can do directly in Sonar.  In a way it feels like I pissed away money on the crossgrade.

You are missing something for sure. I suggest the Groove 3 Superior Drummer Explained video will really help get your money's worth out of Superior Drummer.

Session Drummer 3 is a good program, but there is a reason Superior Drummer (and BFD) cost a lot more.

going through the drums maps in sonar you'll see 2 that stand out, superior drummers drum map and the boss DR-008.
i believe this is the code for the 880.

have you plugged in your drum machine and see if the pad configuration all lines up ?

Charlie...I have always see the 008 but did not think to just try it and see if it lines up with the 880...this kind of excites me...lol

Frosty are you going to use SD2 just for fun or are you expecting it to sound beautifully in a mix without processing (eq, comp, etc.) it? I don't own Toontrack products so I could be wrong, but if you are not familiar with drum processing and don't want to spend hours trying to make them sound right, maybe EZ Drummer is the one to grab? (Never mind if you just wanna have fun or are experienced in mixing )

Yes, let us DR-880 owners know. :)

I'll +1 that.
I find most kits in SD3 are missing several of the 880 pads and are not all that inspiring tho I'm still experimenting.
I'm excited that there are so many here with a DR880. It's given me new interest in it.

I wouldnt get EZ drummer if you can afford SD2. You dont need to sit and construct everything from the ground up to get good sounds, great presets are already included.

I highly recommend you goto at least 8 gigs of ram, if not more.

I had 8 and found it not enough. I use X2 with Superior Drummer + Metal Foundry and both Roots Expansions and made several custom kits. When you start creating custom layouts with multiple room mics, you can eat up ram awfully quick. A few of my superior kits is well over 2gigs of ram just by itself to load up.

I tend to run gigantic mixes with Superior running with Kontakt and several soft synths and large sample libraries, but Superior even by itself can get big.

Its well worth it by the way. I cant express how much more efficient I am now creating music instead of relying upon real drummers :). Its the best tool in terms of streamlining the creative process since gigasampler hit the scene 15 years ago.
