At the moment, I have (at _least_) :(1) Some Preferences settings are being reset when I reopen _a project_ (these should be programme wide???): Snap and Nudge settings for a start....._but not many of the other settings_ (2)If I change Screensets, or copy duplicate a screenset, all my docked windows float and some disappear, to the point where I have to close an reopen again, just to find them. This also happens if I reopen the project (3)All of my Track Pain settings such as column and header text box width, are lost on reopen. (4) The velocity tails are shown in PRV every time I reopen: sometimes I have to tick them on, so I can turn them off. I tried using Templates as somebody suggested, but I could not get it to make any difference. I did not expect it to, as I would have thought that saving as project should take care of these settings and I can't see how a template will help if it does not. This is obviously all wrong...so........Is there any way I can find what version I have? (I think it's the original) Did later versions address these problems? Am I doing something wrong?...This is a pain. I have noted an increasing list of problems that really get in the way of smooth work, and every time I reopen a session I have to go through the list and check them off.

We're all waiting for X2b.
But how do we know X2b will fix all these bugs? (if they are indeed bugs)

if your running x2a and your making project templetes.
it solves more than half the issues here.
i have project templetes that when i open are set up the exact same way everytime i open them, why would that be any different?
track templetes and project templetes are 2 differen things.
a track templete only addresses each track individualy.
project templetes open the project just as you created it in that state.

my templetes are the same as i created them in my project tmpletes, when i open them,my headers are the same way.
when i change screen sets, they're also the same.

there are some thing id like to see addressed myself in x2,take lanes topping that list and a few others as well.

try making a project templete and see if this helps.

i know you said you made one..but you said you made a templete?
a track or project?
then again im not even sure what version of the sonar x series your using because you havent mentioned it and your sig is blank.
is it x1? x1 a/b/c/d ?...is it x2 ?...x2a?

we also have no idea what your specs are.
you might think its got nothing to do with the problem you speak of,it does.

But how do we know X2b will fix all these bugs?

+1 - Good question, and a very serious concern of mine. X2 is "livable" for most, and although I would like to a see a few hot-fixes before X1b, I don't have a lot of faith that many of the concerns on this board will be reworked or fixed. Even after X1d was released, I still had many issues (oddities), but Cakewalk decided it was better to continue on to X2. I can't blame them there, but I'd like the same thing NOT to happen with X2.

Just because some bugs are submitted through the Bug portal, but other aren't doesn't mean people don't run into them frequently. Every iteration of X1 fixed really obscure bugs, none of which I ever ran into, but didn't address bugs that probably were more likely to be hit (even if randomly). Random bugs are difficult to troubleshoot and fix, but that's why they are called "bugs". Maybe they should be called "termites" because they do eat away, and you may never detect them over time.

Sorry guys. I am using X1 still. It's an older copy. That's why I wondered if later releases had fixed these. For instance, there is much talk of templates. But If I open a file, then set settings in Edit Preferences, should that not be saved? If I save that file as a template, with those preferences changed, next time I open it should those settings not be saved? At this stage, I change the preferences, save the file, close only the _file_, not SONAR, and the changes are reset. Surely that shoyld not happen.,

OK. I opened a new file. I made the changes to the Snap/Nudge settings. I also added a soft synth and asked to see a PRV, which I took to a second monitor. I then docked the soft synth's window wqith the PRV. Then I saved as a template, choosing Normal2, in the default folder that SONAR offered....Sonar X1 Producer/Project Templates/Normal2.cwt. I closed it and again asked for a new file using the Normal2 template. Some settings had been reset. The windowing had been lost: no PRV, no softsynth window.

Is it possible you have some write-protected sonar configuration files ?

I don't know in what files Sonar saves its current state but if the files' permissions are such that they can't be updated, it might cause your problems.

My X2 appears to restore things the way they were, though I haven't done any extensive testing.

Just a suggestion.  Try running sonar as Admin. ( right click on the Sonar icon ).  I've ran into applications (other than sonar) that are not able to do simple things like write to a file, because that file was in one of the Program Files folders.

Paul P's comment sparked that suggestion out of me.

In fact, I have Sonar set to run as ADMIN every time I run the Sonar executable

HAH! Tried that and ever after SONAR just kept crashing :(...However it booted me into installing X1C, and that has addressed a lot of what I was asking about. Now all I have to do is get CW to allow me to dl the later updates.
