V-Vocal  (Sonar X2) is frequently hanging my Windows 7 64 bit machine.  Total freeze up.  Lose all work since last save.  Requires reset button reboot.  Getting real tiresome.  Thought I'd type this while I wait for the reboot...on a different computer as I normally do not connect the studio machine to the net.....

Is there some magic incantation - or configuration setting to eliminate this problem?  Fairly happy with X2 otherwise.....

Thanks all, Denny

Try reading bitflipper's guide to using VVocal.

Keeping the clips small and then bouncing them as soon as you're done seems to help.  Not everyone has issues, but these often help the people who do.

I've had a few crashes with V-Vocal. But I stopped using V-Vocal altogether. It still does some weird things. I still frequently get a chipmunks result from it until I restart Sonar.

It still does weird things, even though you don't use it anymore?  That's very odd.

If you follow Bit's guide, it should work okay.  It does here.  I don't use it very often.  I     have an acoustic bass that I love, but it has dodgy intonation, and I will use VVocal to sweeten it up.

Often the artifacts that you describe can be prevented by doing the things Bitflipper suggests.

I do keep the clips small, but bouncing is not convenient because I don't like to commit till the client hear's how I've mangled their parts....and I'm too lazy to copy tracks and re-assign i/o.  And yes V-vocal isn't perfect but it's what I've got and it generally does a decent job...certainly good enough for BG vocals...  Why does everyone think they are a BG vocalist?

dm: when you bounce, the original is still there behind the bounced clip. Try this, you'll see what I mean. Grab a clip, v-vocal it, right click and bounce to clip. Then, delete the clip. Behind it, you'll find your original and it will be muted. :) So even though you're bouncing, it's still non-destructive. :)

Ahhh, you knew what I meant.    But seriously, I do check V-Vocal out again and again with each update. And invariably I will run into "some" issue with it, so I cease to use it.

When the X2 ads were published and we could watch preview videos of X2, Cakewalk showed off V-Vocal. I would have at least updated the UI for it. It's ugly and when I see it I go, "oh, no, you're not using THAT, are you?"

But I keep hoping Cakewalk will find some time to rework it. It's not one of their finest purchases, IMO.

br: that's really weird. Have you ever tried filling out a bug report or contacting tech support on this? I read all the things people have going wrong with V-Vocal and just say "thank you Jesus....I'm soo glad I don't have those problems!" LOL!

It works so well for me, I prefer it over Autotune to be honest. The only issue I have ever had was that kronus.dll crashing when I would use it on a full track. I didn't know about doing it in sections...so as soon as  did that, it was perfect for me. It's never let me down since using it that way. It's so weird how it can be great for some and a nightmare for others. I hope you can esolve your issue with it...as to me, it really is an awesome tool in my realm.

Totally, you have to use it on sections only. Yeah, I've tried filling out bug reports etc. Nobody ever gets back with me. My schedule doesn't permit me to contact their support. Their hours are the same as my day job. I did have a bad experience with their support staff, as well about a year ago, and haven't looked back.

I read the word "hanging" from the OP. I had that issue for a bit as well. Cakewalk Tech Support advised me to do a complete removal and re-install of X2, which sounded like a horrible pain.

But it was easy, pretty fast, and completely fixed the V-Vocal issue.

There's info in several threads here about how to do that.

V-Vocal works solidly for me now.
