A piece that I'm currently working on. Not finished mixing or orchestrating. Lots that I'm not happy with yet, but it a good start I feel.
Enjoy :)

Nicely done. Really captivated the theme your were going for I reckon.

1:30-2:10 is a beautiful melody and I like the way there is just enough "sour" notes to keep the winter feel as opposed to going too melodic.

The recurring staccato string theme is clever.

I couldn't really offer to improve it anymore.

I loved the intro tremolo strings and wanted them to go on longer actually or play a bigger part. Maybe throw some more power into the section I have stated above to make sure that the listener knows its the climax of the track.

You have a very impressive grasp on orchestration.

Thanks Cian,
I'm getting there. Trying to write this piece for my orchestra. The problem is I can't hear what the brass should be doing at the moment. I'm sure it will come to me.

Thanks again fella

Thanks Wookster. You are right I've been working hard to get the full orchestra working together, while trying to keep the sound that I have in my mind for this piece. I've added French horn, Trumpet, Tuba. Still to add Trumbone and Sax, then this piece will have everyone in the orchestra playing.
Thanks for your support. :)

I would think that the brass, especially the tuba/baritones are driving the bassline...similar to "jupiter bringer of jolity" on holsts, the planets.

I'd love to see how you did this - all very very pretty.

Nice work.

I like the way you did this. It's obvious you have a good grasp of how an orchestra actually plays and the arrangements they use.

BTW... no sour notes.... just dissonant ones.

Interesting listen that.    What are you using for your orchestra sounds?

Thanks for taking a listen.
How I did this.... well, I've read these 2 books The guide to midi orchestration & The study of orchestration. But most importantly. I've been going along to my local orchestras rehearsals and seat with every member, this really help me to hear the sound move across the whole orchestra. I think this has been to helpful, watching and learning from all of the musicians close up.

Thanks you very much for saying so. This is my first project where I've been thinking about having my local orchestra playing it. So in the real world I don't know it it is completely true yet. lots of work to do to get them to try it.
