So sorry to hear this. Sounds like sloppy opportunists, and if this is a habit for them I suspect those might be the fraction that actually gets caught.

Sorry to hear about this Beagle.  I'm convinced serial numbers and pawn shops are the union that gets them caught the most.  Maybe that one serial will be just enough.  I sure hope so.

Bummer dude.  We're planning a trip for next ... some day.  My current plan is to take all hard drives in a fire box.  I don't know what to do with guitars/amps and other big stuff.  I'll make damn sure I have serial numbers and photos before we go for sure.  And maybe I'll update my policy to zero deductible, then change it back when we return.  I think I'll add some surveillance cameras that save to a cloud also.

You guys are making me not want to leave home.

The good thing is I live in the boonies, have a rep for being armed and dangerous and for having electronic surveillance.  Locals stay away and non-locals aren't likely to stumble upon the place.

Sorry about your trouble Beag. I think it's bad everywhere now. I don't leave for long periods of time because the apartments are always being watched to see who comes and goes. Good luck!

Wow, Tom!  $5k is about all they took and damaged this time, I think!

we JUST got back from vacation a little over a week ago and no one really came by to check on the house.  our dog stayed with relatives a few miles away and we were gone for a week!  but they didn't do anything then - they came LAST NIGHT!

grr...  the stuff they took and broke wasn't much but it just burns me that people do stuff like this.  it was probably a kid or very small person because they came in through the broken window and the window wasn't broken all the way out - very small opening after they threw the rock through it.  and no blood. and very small shoe imprints in the dust, either a kid or a young girl.

Reece - so sorry to hear this - living in Cape Town South Africa for much of the year, one gets very hyper about security - my house has high walls, very powerful electric fence, beams to trigger alarm then security alarms each window and door, plastic bars on each opening window, anti smash film on all non opening windows, cameras  etc oh and guaranteed 2 minute armed response which I think is the biggest deterrent of all - and these guys don't muck around, so can and do shoot if necessary. Even though crime is high, never had an issue personally, so I do think these days one does need to take whatever precautions one can to protect yourself and your possessions
Hope they catch the thieves and you get all you stuff back
Nigel

Wow. I'm very sorry to hear about this, Reece. Humans should not be allowed out in public.

If their assault on your home is any indication of their skills, they will hopefully be caught soon. I can't imagine that criminal masterminds like these would roam free for too long. Replacing the stuff doesn't lessen the emotional impact of having someone break into your home.
