I have been looking at a camera system as well. The ones that I have seen that are motion sensitive are not like the motion sensitive lights as they look at any motion in the video frame. The DVR is recording the whole time but when it detects motion in the frame it flags the video for saving starting like 30 seconds before the motion occurs. Unless I'm confused, I don't understand how an event can be missed. Apparently it is so sensitive that they allow you to mask out parts of the frame, like for bushes or cars passing by, so it does not constantly trigger as motion.

That was quick on the insurance settlement. Congrats!

At least some of the motion sensing cameras will only allow triggers every 10 seconds, so a trigger by a leaf blowing would record for a few seconds, then wouldn't allow another trigger for ten seconds. In that ten seconds a lot could happen from thieves.

Just a possibility I've seen from my research.

Hi Reece , I'm sorry to hear about you loosing some musical stuff and the robbery ...

In the 10 seconds of the camera being down a whole hell of a lot of beat down can be inflicted on a thief

all the best,

Check this video out. The guy is a bit verbose but it's worth a watch. Note how the cameras are triggered by birds flying by, fast enough to actually capture the birds in flight.

yeah, that one looks good motion detection on it looks great!  (I didn't watch the entire 35 minutes of this guy going on and on, tho...)

I really am not looking forward to trying to run cable through the attic, tho.  last time I did that (just a a couple of months ago) my leg fell through the ceiling and I had to get that repaired.

and in Texas it gets SUPER hot in the attics during the summer!

Watch out for the black widows and scorpions. They love attics.

Oh great, thank you, I have to go up in our super hot attic and replace the thermostat on an attic fan, and I have a spider phobia...

The kind of camera I'm most interested in do exactly what the ones above do except they don't look like cameras.  I personally like the one's that look like smoke detectors - those get universally ignored.  The key to these that I also really like is that you don't need to wire them up.  They transmit using WiFi and the data can be saved locally or on the cloud.  They can be wired for power, but also have a battery for backup.  I'll have to see if I still have the website URL I originally found them on around here...

The more important question for those considering adding an indoor security camera:

Is there a camera I can mount indoors that won't broadcast pictures of me walking around in my undershreddies over Wi-Fi?
