The kind of camera I'm most interested in do exactly what the ones above do except they don't look like cameras.  I personally like the one's that look like smoke detectors - those get universally ignored.  The key to these that I also really like is that you don't need to wire them up.  They transmit using WiFi and the data can be saved locally or on the cloud.  They can be wired for power, but also have a battery for backup.  I'll have to see if I still have the website URL I originally found them on around here...

If potential thieves ignore them, wouldn't that make it more likely that you'll get burgled? I think I'd rather deter someone by having visible cameras than have them on film ransacking my house.

Watch out for the black widows and scorpions. They love attics.

Oh great, thank you, I have to go up in our super hot attic and replace the thermostat on an attic fan, and I have a spider phobia...

No worries, you don't live in Texas.

Please guys put a solid door on your studio and a whopping deadlock on that door. Have one room inside your house that cannot be accessed.  It is all very well to say locks only keep out honest people but a locked internal door will also stop an amateur break in as well.

We were burgled in 1997 and they took the usual stuff but could not get into my studio though. My wife has a $40,000 violin for example and we put things like that inside that room and locked it before going out every time.

A well designed alarm system (and by that I mean careful placement of movement detectors. And doors and windows need to wired as well so they trip off sooner than getting inside) will also deter some. I had whopping internal sirens that were about 4 times louder than normal and double the external sirens and flashing lights as well. Talk to your neighbours especially when going away for a period and alert then to what is going on. With all that set off they tend to panic a bit and grab and run. They won't be hanging around trying to get into that locked internal door.

Inside the locked room now put a camera in there if you can and arrange the video signal to be recorded and sent somewhere else as well. It is all possible now.

I never actually got around to doing this but I had an idea of having some detectors set at the front and rear of the house that triggered off a recording of a loud big angry dog barking and running from back to front etc inside the house when someone approached too close to those areas. For those long periods away I was going to set this up. No one and I repeat no one will even consider entering on hearing that. I spoke to the alarm manufacturers about it and they thought it was amazing idea. It would require a bit of design and fiddling but it could be done though.

It is also not smart to leave your house in darkness when you are away from it. It sort of says there is no one home. Better to have lights on and even a TV for example.  (the barking dog concept works better if there are lights on as well) When away as well for longer periods get one of those timers that turn lights on and off at slightly different times of each day. Create the impression there is someone there.  An alarm that dials out is also a good idea. Not so much to a monitoring company but I routed that number to a friend who lived close by and he could go around to investigate and reset etc if necessary.

well said jeff,
I have organic security-2 black Staffies and a big, baritone Red Kelpie with a dog flap at the back door,so most strangers don`t get out of the car till you call the dogs off-
when we go away we get the neighbour to feed them so they don`t require battery backup....
this system has been used since Adam was a boy.
cheers

The visible ones would be fake.

I had a neighbor where we both had issues with people running through our yards as a shortcut to a main street behind us.  We talked about using motion sensors to trigger audio.  The barking dog wasn't mentioned, but growls from LARGE animals as well as machine gun fire was discussed.

I have already gotten the insurance settlement check. haven't heard another peep out of the police and I haven't seen any of my equipment on CL.  I haven't had time to scour the pawn shops.

best news, tho, is I've already gotten my replacement KSM44 in last night and hooked it up and did a test run!  awesomeness!  (I bought a used one on ebay to replace the KSM which was stolen).

one thing I discovered, tho, during the test is that my preamp I typically use for vocals (ART MPA II) did not work when I connected the mic to it.  actually, I connected it to the cable which the stolen mic was connected to which connects to the ART, so I'm hoping that the cable was damaged when they ran with the mic stand with the mic connected to it!  hmm..I'm even hoping it damaged the mic when the connector yanked out of it! [evil grin]

but I didn't have time last night to figure out if it was a problem with the cable/connector or with the ART unit after they yanked on it from pulling the mic.  It'll probably be a couple of days before I can get to it.

Hi,

I want the camera system, that pops flashbulbs and then says out loud ... I GOT YOUR PICTURE AND YOUR CAR'S LICENSE PLATE, YOU MORON! Without that voice, and the popping of the pictures, I am not sure that it would be as efficient and interesting.

While you're at it, might as well have something spray them with red & fluorescent ink too!

The more important question for those considering adding an indoor security camera:

Is there a camera I can mount indoors that won't broadcast pictures of me walking around in my undershreddies over Wi-Fi?

I don't know about that but getting one that will seems to be no problem!

Check this video out. The guy is a bit verbose but it's worth a watch. Note how the cameras are triggered by birds flying by, fast enough to actually capture the birds in flight.

Those look nice Bitflipper. Although, I got to thinking, if you expose your camera's some punk might use a BB Gun to take them out while hiding behind a tree. Very important to have some hidden camera's and always have a battery backup system if your power goes out because now days a lot of people have these so called "SMART POWER METERS" which are always in contact with the power company, but I've read where people can hack them and cut your power for a few seconds which would be all it would take to get inside your home.

Always important to have inside hidden camera's as well as outside camera's. If you show the crooks what they can use especially if they are wireless then they might hack and use them against you to watch you!

Always use CCTV Closed Circuit TV connections with a battery backup supplier on your system so if the power goes out it's still taking video. At least that's what I am thinking about the subject.

Don't assume anything is safe, your mail, your phone, NOTHING! And while some will reply "Your being paranoid" but like Curt Cobain said : "Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you".

I have had customers in the past who were rich that had extreme camera setup's, some set out to see but most were hidden, and they all had backups systems set up if their power went out.

Not just that, but laser pointers can mess with some of those camera's. Something else to think about.

Just thought I'd mention that battery thing, it's something to think about, and also the hidden aspect of your camera's. Thing is, once you start putting up camera's to some criminals it says "Hey they must have something really expensive in there to protect". So Hidden is better in my opinion.

You gotta think like a criminal I guess, sad but true, to protect your property nowadays.

Sorry to hear you and Reece both got robbed, that's terrible. Wish you both the best always!
