I would be quite surprised if anything in the Kontakt library were not at A-440, but please let us know if you find such a thing.

I have never had a sample library (or synth sample) that sounded out of tune, but maybe I have just been lucky so far.  (Actually, some Hollywood Strings samples have individual bad notes, but they claim they were intentionally left in for realism. .  I prefer the VSL Dimension Strings approach that lets you control the Humanization.)

If you own a guitar tuner, plug it into an output jack or if it has a mike put it in front of the speaker.

Try the KVR site, there must be a free tuner there.

Another one is to check and make sure your controller isn't sending pitch bend info from the mod wheel of joystick. This might explain why the export was in tune too.

Konkakt to my knowledge does not have out of tune patches.

Dim Pro had some bass patches that some reported as out of tune but my understanding is that was fixed.

The advice from Konrad is very good and may explain your problem.

Welcome to the forum Peter.

Ok, thanks to all for your input and responses!  It is very nice to receive such a warm, friendly and helpful welcome onto this forum!

Well after a bit more playing around I have some interesting results...

Firstly Bub - many thanks for the heads up on the Melda stuff...some great things in there!

Using the Melda tuner app I can check that, yep the Kontakt samples are pretty much perfectly in tune....

I also checked that the piano sample are also in tune..yep no problem there either....

But the playback through Sonar just not sound right at all.....at this point I was really questioning my hearing...

Then as I mentioned above I have saved off various parts to an MP3...and whoa...on the MP3 playback everything is perfectly in tune!

So....why does it not sound right in Sonar?  No idea.  I am using a digital piano as a MIDI controller so there is no pitch bend available...but I found that even when I programme the bass by hand the same thing occurs..strange...

Anyway, I guess I can live with this for now knowing that the final "print" should be ok....

Thanks again

I had a weird tuning related problem recently. A MIDI Rhodes loop in a piece I'd been working on all of a sudden started playing out of tune. The notes would start in tune, but as they decayed they'd drop in pitch quite noticeably. It hadn't been doing this before. So I changed the synth to a Kontakt piano (Alicia's Keys) to see if that was out of tune as well. It was. The thing was warbling out of tune as the notes decayed. The funny thing was that playing the same chords on my keyboard sounded fine - it was only when I started playback that they would warble. I imported the MIDI clip to a brand new project with the same VSTi's loaded, lo and behold they sounded fine.

And then, the next day, the problem went away. It really flummoxed me for a while though, and just reinforced my feeling that screwy things start happening in a project the longer you work on it.

I hope you will get this working a bit better than that, it should be possible.
I wouldn't give up just yet.

For the record - Here is Peter's thread on the NI forums. http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189908

NI Kontakt libraries not immune from tuning issues - Either the B3 or C3 in Vintage Organs is notoriously a few cents off. With the Leslie on its hard to hear it.  NI claim it was intentional and because the instruments sampled were slightly out of tune

If I need a tuner I use the tuner in Amplitube 3.  I think the tuner is included in the free version.

Excuse me, but am I right to think that "out of tune" and "not perfectly tuned" are different things and this thread IS about "out of tune"?

And yes, +1 for M Tuner! (simple's the best)

Guys..again thanks for the great input...

To illustrate what I was talking about I will try and post an audio clip of the playback though X2 and then the MP3 for contrast .....as much for my own sanity check as anything else!!....not sure the best way to capture the pure X2 audio output but I will work on it...
