There's a thread way, way back that explains how to get it to work.

Here's an article Setting Up NanoKontrol – Sonar from 2009.
Mentioned in forum thread: KORG NANO KONTROL USB Controller

Hope it helps.

Any firmware updates available?

Can you use it in X1 still? Save the preset from where you set it up originally then open that up in X2. Without looking it's hard to be sure.
I uninstalled X1 when I went to X2. I'd love to put X1 back on, but I'm not sure if I can/should, now that X2 is on there.

And I had no preset from X1it worked the way Korg said it should: as a "Mackie" controller.

None newer than the one I installed after I got it. That was about a year ago, so it has the latest firmware. Good suggestion, though!

Thanks for the links, but they all appear to be for the original nanoKontrol (and Sonar X1 or 8.5.3). The X2 specifically offers pre-programmed "Mackie" compatibility (to a degree), and according to Korg (and my previous X1 installation), it will work as a Mackie controller.

When I try to use "Cakewalk Generic Surface" as the tips above suggest, the Kontrol2 just plays MIDI notes (if I watch Piano Roll View); the knobs and faders don't respond, though all knobs and faders affect only the first track in Sonar.
I was hoping an X2 and Kontrol2 user (or two) would know if this even works or not. If no one's been able to get it to work, I'll stop trying--and have one more reason to go back to X1...or to another DAW (yes, yes, heresy, I know....).

Get the Mountain midi tools:
http://home.kpn.nl/f2hmjvandenberg281/miditls.html

verify what is being sent by the korg.

It might be a good idea to forget about running X2 on XP. The product was not tested on XP. If you are staying with XP, stay with X1 or, as you say, another DAW that is supported on XP.

Yea I now remember some issues I had when installing. The controller was recognized in windows device manager and I think it was found by sonar, but would not work until i deleted a few midi ports. I had to run the uninstall program for the controller and it gives you the option of selecting the one(s) you wanted to delete. Once I got rid of the extras then the controller started working in sonar, but only as a generic controller. I'd try just getting one fader to work under generic, then at least you know that the rest of the unit can be mapped.

I'd also try the korg fourm. That's where I eventually found the info I needed. Don't give up! As I'm sure you know it's a great controller when it works.

For what it's worth, I re-installed Sonar X1, (leaving X2 installed), and the nanoKontrol2 worked just as I expected it to, and I didn't even have to configure it!

This is obviously a bug in X2--one of many. I'm going to stick with X1 for as long as I can.

Thanks all who tried to help.

On a related note, the Search function for these forums sucks! I couldn't find any posts containing "nanoKontrol2"--including my own!
