  • Korg nanoKontrol2 doesn't work after upgrade to Sonar X2 (p.3)

Actually, I doubt it's a bug in X2. I tried using the nanoKontrol2 as an emulated Mackie Control in Sonar X2, Studio One Pro 2.5, Ableton Live 8, Acid Pro 7, and Vegas 10. It didn't work with any of them, yet other Mackie Control emulations (e.g., Samson Graphite) work with all of them. It could be that I'm not using the proper DAW control mode (the "hold down set marker + something else" thing), but shouldn't a Mackie Control emulation be the same, regardless of what DAW you use?
I'm using a 64-bit system, so maybe that's the issue.

That is surprising, actually. And yes, you'd think emulation should be the same, regardless of the DAW mode. All I know is that I re-installed X1 (without so much as disconnecting the controller that didn't work with X2), and voila! It worked flawlessly as soon as I opened X1 for the first time. I didn't even have to configure it. Admittedly, some of X1's entries were probably still in the Registry; Revo Uninstaller doesn't remove everything. Still, it's nice when things just work.

Frankly, between this latest "wrinkle" and X2 using much more RAM...and not being "supported" with or updated for Windows XP/32-bit OSes, I've gone back to X1 until I can afford a new PC. I like what X2 appeared to offer, but there were too many problems.

Thanks for trying, Craig, and good luck with your Kontrol/controllers. (I can't imagine the amount of hardware and software you must troubleshoot each month in your work. It's a wonder you get anything done at all!)

[<font]When I made my "preset" (I don't know what you call it. I made it work then I saved what I did as preset in X1 then opened that preset in X2) It workded. I'll try and find it and post it. Maybe it will help?

I found the file in C:\Program files\Cakewalk\Shared Preset/{404C9315-693D-4715-A326-143A992FA784}

It may be differnent for you.

Maybe Mr. Anderton can elaborate better than I can. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the attempt, Guitarpima, but there is no "C:\Program files\Cakewalk\Shared Preset/" folder on a 32-bit Windows XP installation. I found a "Shared Presets" folder, and put the file there, but no luck. I even removed and added the controller again in X2, but it still just says "Connecting...".

Still, X1 is chugging right along, and my wife is starting to warm to the idea of me getting a new PC, so this might get solved one way or another soon enough!

I believe you would need the associated registry entry. But I have never tried copying presets like that before.

It would have to go in a folder inside the shared presets folder. I used the generic cakewalk controller. When you get there, look at the dropdown list of presets, make a mental note of the names and put the file is the same folder inside the shared presets folder.

I made a mistake.

C:\Program files\Cakewalk\Sonar X1\User Data\Shared presets\????

Thats the location. Sorry for the mixup.

I just copied the file from my folder to the desktop, re-named it and put it back. I did not show up in the list.

I just checked the registry. It looks like you could put the file there where I said before. Then you would have to go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\ControlSurfaces\Presets\{404C9315-693D-4715-A326-143A992FA784}

You would have to add a string directing it to the file you put in the folder.

Mine looks like this:

Value name
Nano Kontrol 2

Value Data:
C:\Users\Robert\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Shared Presets\{404C9315-693D-4715-A326-143A992FA784}\Nano Kontrol 2
Unless there are other places in the registry that have to have things added as well, it did not work.

Steve, have you ever run 2 nanoKONTROL2 units successfully in X1? I have been trying to getting in X2 on Win7 and get 1 working but not 2 (and I keep seeing Corrupted Korg drivers in the Korg Delete Driver utility so I still have plenty of troubleshooting).

Glad I found this discussion.
