  • Project saving every time I stop playback

I've just started working on an old project again and I've noticed that it's saving every time I stop playback. I don't seem to recall this happening on any of my other projects. I have autosave on, but that's set to save every 5 minutes. Is this normal?

I think that if Sonar is playing a project when Autosave is scheduled it waits until the project stops, so as not to cause drop outs etc.

I don't know if this is causing what you see, as I guess you would have seen it before in other projects.

autosave is an engine feature, which means its almost like its own program built within a program, what autosave does is check a few things first to make sure saving can be done in a safe manner.
"checks to make sure playback is stopped(as jb said)no midi/data is being transfered, exc.
its runs the engine everytime you hit stop.
i notice it even in newer projects, not to the point it interupts flow.

is it interupting flow in anyway?

have you tried shutting it off to see if this is indeed what your seeing ?

matter of fact what are you seeing and not sure i understand what the problem is?

sharke-  My Sonar has done this since X1.  It saves every 30 seconds or so, and after each Stop.  It's very annoying, huh?  I have my Autosave at 10 minutes, and turned off the "Save after X revisions" feature.

I have autosave turned off.

I do my saves manually. Generally I save after any sort of major tracking, punch, or edit.

And I will do a play through on the edits to see how well they were accomplished..... if they are "good to go" I will often let playback continue and click on the SAVE icon during the playback. My system never misses a beat. It does the save... the screen may freeze for a second, but I have never had an audio stutter or drop during a save, and as soon as it's completed.... the screen catches up.

Sounds terrible. Maybe clean reinstall of X1 and X2 will fix it?

Ok so now I understand how autosave works. But I still think there's a problem with it because it seems to save every time I stop playback, even if I stop playback well within 5 minutes of the last save (I have it set to every 5 mins).

Maybe I will shut it off because it does interrupt my workflow a little. This particular project seems to take an age to save for some reason.

do you have save after x changes enabled, because if there's automation changing fx parameters and such that will count in the number of changes.

autosave is an engine feature...

Hi Charlie,

Just curious about the term "engine feature".  I haven't heard the term before.  I have been involved in SW/HW engineering for the past 20+ years.  And still am for my day job as an  EE.  But that doesn't mean I know everything (or anything).  Is this a new name for a programming concept that has been around for years - or is this a new concept?

Thanks,
Don
