I know I've done this before a few times, but I'm having a brain-sprain today and can't figure out the straightforward way of doing this...
The scenario - I have an audio version of a song.
- I also have a MIDI version of the same song.
- These were created on separate occasions, so they will not align as-is
- So far neither has any tempo map in Sonar.
The goal - create a tempo map to the Audio file (easy-peasy for me)
- align the MIDI file to that tempo (which is where I am stuck).
How do I set MBT for the MIDI file without affecting the tempo map I generate from the audio track? I've done this before a few times but it's been a while (Sonar 8 and prior).
My current solution This is the approach I am contemplating right now...maybe this is the only way?
- create a project file for the MIDI track
- generate a tempo map for that MIDI track
- clear out all the tempo changes so that the MIDI track adjusts accordingly
- import the audio file into the above MIDI project
- create a new tempo map as per the audio
- the MIDI track should automagically adjust to this new tempo map
- both MIDI and AUDIO are now in sync, with a perfectly matching tempo
- No audio should be harmed in this process ;-)
Is this the only way to do this? Hmmm, maybe it is. Now that I'm thinking about it, I seem to recall doing something similar before. Anyway, I'll post it here in case anyone needs to do the same or has a better suggestion....
