I found that moving (after install) the two waveshell dlls to separate folders (in my case I use C:\Program Files\Vstplugins\Waves and C:\Program Files(x86)\Vstplugins\Waves).


That way 32bit SONAR is looking in one place and 64bit SONAR is looking to another place.

I would do a clean install. What I did was uninstall all the waves plugs. Manually deleted all Waves folders and deleted all the waveshell entries in the registry then reinstalled everything again.
 
The reg key is Hkey_current_user\software\cakewalk music software\sonar producer\cakewalk vst\inventory.
 
remove everything waveshell.

+1. This is a known issue between Waves and Cakewalk where the Waves install doesn't always work every time. I believe this is mostly a Waves issue, but Sonar has this uncanny desire to hold specific versions hostage. I had issues just going from V9.0.0 to 9.1.2. It was a disaster with Sonar.

I didn't uninstall waves I just deleted the waveshell from the 32 bit vst folder and that worked for me.

I hate the way all windows PC's behave differently. Even if we had all the same equipment, plugs, software and settings.
One will run perfect and one will be all screwed up.

That's why you have to manually remove all waveshells from the registry. I also had issue where after installing Waves plugins they weren't written in the registry. There are a couple more Waves plugs I want but am hesitant because I will have to uninstal everything and reinstall just for one plug even. I have not found any other way that works. Waves support like to blame Cakewalk but Cakewalk doesn't have anything to do with Waves not writting to the registry.

  I was having a hell of a time when I upgraded from version 8. The version 8 bundle was still showing up in the Plug in manager and on my layouts even though I deleted everything that had to do with it. Finally heard about this trick and low and behold in the reg was all of these Waves version 8 effects. Deleted them all and finally they are gone and all I have are version 9.2 64bit waves plugins. Also the plugin limit warning has gone away. All is good!

Thanks - don't know to much about the registry, but can't get this reg key to work on my computer, maybe since I have a norwegian version of win 7 installed.

Thanks - don't know to much about the registry, but can't get this reg key to work on my computer, maybe since I have a norwegian version of win 7 installed. 

You will want to be careful with the registry. Not sure why your version of windows registry would be different than english or any other version. If you click on Start then type regedit in the search section the registry should open in it's own window. From there navigate to this key. If you can contact Waves they will take control of your pc and do it. If your not comfortable editing the registry do try it.

The registry is just plain evil.  A bad idea that has gotten out of control, through use, abuse and misuse by developers, by Microsoft, by users, by third party tools and it's amazing to me that we still have to deal with it.

That being said, I would follow Mr. Anderton's advice first (post #6 above) before attempting anything with the registry.  But if you do have to venture into deleting stuff from the registry then make a backup of it first.
