Ok... sorry about that. I just wasn't sure what you were getting at considering some of our previous interactions. Cheers.

Sorry not needed I could have worded it a little better.

Take care.

I'm guessing I've joined a forum where there are heated debates from time to time eh?

As much as X1 was a bust for me, X2 has been pretty good to me.

Admittedly my usage pattern has changed since retiring ie. I'm not as heavy a user at this time as when X1 was released.

when my new home is finished (2 months or so) and I finally get a studio again I'll be looking forward to getting deeper into Sonar X2? whatever version is around at that time;

not really it just seems sometimes when someone posts a positive thread others feel its neccessary
to point out the flaws.
there are ways about expressing concerns and then there are those who just want to spoil peoples enjoyment.

this place is a vast of knowlege and with that comes heads that butt.but if you can do it in a decent fashion then
you learn to respect the people that dont always agree with you.

I sort of feel like I'm not really qualified to give testimony on X2a as I've really only been enjoying it for about a week and a half. In that time I've had a few old plugins that didn't work that needed a paid update to get up to snuff but otherwise it's never brought the machine down and the only crashes were related to the aforementioned plugins. I haven't done any really serious mixes with tons of automation or anything nor have I done any overdubs on the recordings I've done. I've only dealt with previously recorded projects or just test recordings of 16 track live band recordings.

I can say that I tracked 4 full lengths and countless demos and TV cues on X1 and X1E. Other than some shortcuts changing I never had any problems with X1. I ran X1 on a windows XP machine that started off with Sonar 6PE and hosted every version of Sonar up to X1.

I'm sorry there are some people with many troubles. I'm worried I could be come one but so far other than experiencing the most challenging computer build of my life on my current machine I've generally fared pretty well with regard to stability.

My SONAR X2 x64 is very stable too!

I had some strange things happen "crash" in the past but I found out how to fix it. If you experice instability with SONAR or other programs, try this out.

First check in Windows event log file? Do you find "error id 46 volmgr"?
'If you do,.... this will fix it!

Let's try these steps to change the settings of virtual memory only for 'C' drive and remove the settings to automatically manager paging file size for other drives.

a. Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
b. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
c. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
d. Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, click Change.
e. Clear the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives check box.
f. Under Drive [volume label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
g. Select the drive and select no paging file and click set for all the drives except for C drive:

Set page file size as same as your installed RAM size, example: If you have 8126mb RAM set MAX pagefile to 8126 and minimum to same value 8126.
Windows will need to rebot your system..

Good tip, Freddie.   I've been setting a fixed virtual memory size for about 15 years now, though I originally came across this from a CAD/3D modeling perspective vs. DAW use.   But either way, removing dynamic virtual memory resizing from the list of Windows tasks always seemed like a good thing to do.

I just noticed something the last couple of days - just to add some positive experience here

I needed to open some old - old projects, created with version 5, 6 or whatever it was, OLD projects - to bounce out some backing tracks we use live. So I did the usual thing, save-as a new copy called "songtitle X2" so I don't mess up the original. Then started brushing up the tracks, adding new synths, tweaking sounds and so forth, add a bunch of Pro Channel effects. The only problem I had was that on all the old tracks, my default PC chain for Buses was inserted on the tracks rather than my default PC chain for tracks. Weird. No biggie. Then bounced out the stems and that was it.

What makes this a story worth telling is that with X1, this couldn't possibly happen without having a huge crash! And we're talking that big re-boot, everything hangs and milk goes sour crash. I developed a workaround that got me through that when I needed to but it took some time and effort. I'm happy to see that X2a is much happier with pre X-series projects, even with old 32-bit plugins not installed any more.

I have to say, since the A-patch I haven't been messing too much with Sonar because of heavy workloads elsewhere. But so far I have no problems with it.

I keep reading about how some people are having serious issues, but not so much what they are exactly. I've not been here much the past few months. Is there a list or a run down in a thread somewhere? I have run into minor bugs which I work around and can't actually remember what they are ATM.

Anyway, a huge positive for X2 - it changed everything
