X2 was a problem for me until the initial quick fix took care of the main issue I was having. X2a has been rick solid. The only crash I've had was from one of those Dim Pro patches mentioned up thread. On my machine it seems to be the drum loops that crash Dim Pro in 64 bit, probably because they contain rex files. This has been happening since 8.53, but that's another story for another time. I just did a two song CD for a local band using about 40 tracks per song, Pro Channel on each with console emulation, plus some 3rd party plug-ins like Drumagog, Guitar Rig, etc. Not one crash or even a hiccup. The project was started on a Q6600 machine and finished on an i7 machine. X2a was stable on both builds. Overall I'm very happy with this version. Does it have a few quirks? Yes, but so does Pro Tools MP9 for me especially when using ReWire with Reason on some of my MIDI stuff.

Nice to see some positive feedback for a change! I had a couple of minor hiccups on X2, but they were minor issues that were resolved quickly thanks to this forum. In fact, I recently finished recording our band's second album using X2 (first was done on X1).

Sadly, I need to incorporate another DAW into my system strictly based on scoring-to-picture requirements. X2 is "okay" for minor work, but once you get cooking, it lacks in that department. I'm awaiting the Windows release of DP8, which is undoubtedly the way to go for scoring to picture IMO. Not sure why Cakewalk never focussed more on this area??

Other than that, X2 is a fantastic, rock solid DAW. I find that most gripes on this forum over the years are a result of system specific issues, not the program itself.

Where's the information for all the versions after XP? This applies to Windows Server 2003 and XP x64 which was never really released.

Plus ...
"This article is specifically for computers that do not need kernel mode or full memory dump analysis."
Please folks, don't be messing with this stuff and then come back to the forum complaining that X2a is crashing ... if you screw with any of this non-sense ... make sure you completely format your system and reload everything from scratch before you come back complaining about Sonar.

You guys are so funny. LOL!

Good tip, Freddie.   I've been setting a fixed virtual memory size for about 15 years now, though I originally came across this from a CAD/3D modeling perspective vs. DAW use.   But either way, removing dynamic virtual memory resizing from the list of Windows tasks always seemed like a good thing to do.

Thanks and that's cool!
That was a nice trick on XP32 system making it work smoother.. On XP 1,5 times the RAM on board.

Best regards
Freddie

This thread is another example of a few people adding drama to this forum daily. Not much to read here anymore. Someone says I like sonar - the handful of love/hate sonar folks jump in and call bs on the op. Then you grab the popcorn and read the rest like a bad re-run of the karate kid #23. The core group that hates on Sonar to the most boring place in a reader's mind is and has driven helpful and interesting people away from the forum. To my amazement, even attacking Craig Anderton from the safety of their big bad keyboard last week. What a travesty!! We are honored to have Craig here to share his deep knowledge of the music industry and recording knowledge. I'm ashamed.

With that said - this type of thread should have been a harmless everyday type thread where someone wanted to share their experience with like minded people. Good luck with the duck dynasty bash sonar for sport folks. Like highway robbers, they lay in wait. Anxious to see a thread such as this one and jump in with their message of being a victim. Hope that is working out for all of you that this applies to.

    Boring...
