No biggie Ryan. I just don't know how it works and was curious that's all.

I saw admin logged in off and on all weekend ... but the thread stayed until this morning. Seems someone could have done something ... or maybe they can't. Like I said, I don't know how it works.

Not a big deal.

Thanks,
Bub.

I don't expect Cakewalk to work on weekends :-)

Besides, it was pretty calm around here the last couple of days.

Maybe you had one of the booby trapped Dim Pro patches loaded. Wish there was a list of those somewhere.

Hey, Beepster - I ran across one of those a long while back.  It was one of the guitar patches - something like 'Almost Together' or 'Almost There' = something like that.

Anyways, the fix was in this thread:

http://forum.cakewalk.com...?m=2074837&mpage=1

I am not aware of others, but there may certainly be.

I know some of the Native Instruments Kontakt patches have annoying 'trigger notes' that change sound attributes of the currently playing patch.  VSL Strings was one such patch.  If I hit a low C note the sound would change to pizzicato.  I had to adjust the note numbers for the trigger notes to be as low as it would let me set them, so I wouldn't accidentally alter the sound.  GRRR.

And then there was a Reaktor Pan Flute sound that for some reason kept dropping pitch by a whole step.  I had to adjust some Sonar Preferences settings to make that stop - can't remember precisely which ones - something about either zeroing controllers and/or searching back for presets and such.

Anyways - yeah, it would be nice to have some sort of a Forum topic on the various undocumented surprises that lurk out there, just to consolidate them, although I would imagine that would be just about impossible to keep in any sort of helpful structure.  (and also free of non-helpful commentary).

Forums are 24/7. And the report of abuse that I sent in was before the weekend. There were admin here during that time, and all weekend. That's why I was asking who got the reports ... I saw people here but nothing was done.

Like I said, no biggie.

Hi Guys,

I have edited some rude posts in this thread after getting a few reports. Some of the posts were edited simply because they contained quotes.

The content of the posts isn't really important. Please stop abusing one another with profanity and rudeness and sarcasm. This goes for everyone participating in such behavior (and there are multiple people).

Also, please do not drag Cakewalk/Roland into your personal quarrels. Nobody at Cakewalk is reading this bickering and picking favorites. This is simply not the case. The only reason it even hit my radar is because people reported several posts in this thread. Try not to take it personal.

I know we all get heated sometimes and we're all passionate, let's just try to keep it clean and professional.

I think its very dangerous for CW to edit posts. I don't mean this in that the world is coming to an end way, only where will it end? Who is to say that what is posted was in fact actually posted by the person credited? How will this effect positions held in opposition to Sonar? Threads have been moved or locked or deleted but to my memory never tampered with by editing by anyone other than the poster themself.

Clearly CW has total control over these forums and can do whatever they may wish. Yet, editing someone else's post to me, no matter how objectionable, can only result in undermining the integrity of this forum and distorting the writing of those that post in it. This is not a practice that CW should be engaged in.

I can see a need for dealing with posts that violate the TOS, however editing posts here is to me the wrong approach.

We have enjoyed a great deal of freedom posting here with the understanding our posts will not be tampered with, I think that doing this even for good reasons violate the spirit of this forum and pose a question about the future.

I'm sure that this was thought out with all the implications considered but I wonder how the members who's posts seem now and forever in jeopardy would react if they had been allowed a voice in the decision?

I only speak for myself and hope that you and CW will reconsider this new way of policing the forum.

Have to end this with:

Totally offended that my posts were edited. I did not curse, tell anyone to die, threaten anyones life or health or family.

When someone mocks my service to our country, Yes I get angry. Really angry. But still, I did not curse, etc, etc.

Very wrong CW, very wrong indeed.

Startman70,

I edited your posts because they had direct quotes to other people's posts. I briefly mentioned in my posts above that this was the case with some posts and for nobody to take anything personal. This was nothing against you personally. I know you sent me a private message and I'd like to reply to you personally since it seems like there is some miss-communication.

I'm sorry for any confusion on the matter.

To everyone else,

I received some PMs and also noticed the replies below. I wasn't trying to police the forum nor make it look like anyone was at fault here.

All I did was edit posts because they had profanity in them and people were insulting one another directly. The specific posts I edited were directly reported via the abuse system. I also specifically stated that some posts were edited simply because they had direct quotes to others.

This isn't a new way of moderating the forums. I wasn't trying to change any procedures here. When people use hyphens to get around the forum filter to use profanity, the post is going to be edited if its reported enough. This is specifically mentioned in the TOS. The alternative is to move on to banning people, which is not something I wanted to do because even the people I saw involved I know are good people who care a lot.

Once again, I'm not here to pick favorites nor to determine who started what. I was just reacting to what was reported by other members of the community... and yes some people did report this thread who did not participate directly in it.

I'm sorry if this upset anyone, this was not my intention. My intention was simply to clean up the abuse, as was requested by other members.

The topic at hand was originally a positive one and I was hoping that we could return to that. This is why I did not delete the entire thread. I'm sorry to the original poster to have sidetracked this very much.

I did not mock your service, and the fact that you accuse me of that greatly offends me.

I should add that when I post I leave a part of myself behind. My thoughts are mine I believe and not to be edited or otherwise changed by anyone except me. I have always had this view.

Even when I make an error in grammar or spelling I don't edit it after I posted it. This is because I think it is very important that what is said remain so that a full understanding is there at all times. With all the worts and errors in place.

In the past on this forum posters added to an edited post that it was edited but for such and such reason. Some still do it to show the meaning was not changed.

Now a very good friend on this forum is so upset with this development that he may not participate further. To me that tampering was not worth anyone feeling the need to remove themselves because of it. I wonder if it was truly worth it?

@John . . . while I understand your firm stance on free speech on the forums, don't you at least agree that some of these recent threads
are in need of some moderation by Cakewalk admins ?  Ryan says he has edited for the purpose of cleaning up the language, and insults flying around.

After all . . . I log in here to learn about audio recording and Cakewalk Sonar tips from the Pros that use it, and perhaps occasionally help a new user with what I've learned . . . I really hate to waste time and have to filter through all the bogus threads where people are slinging personal insults.

I guess my vote is for more Cakewalk moderation of threads such as these.
